First time we had ordered Sunday Lunch at the CA and it was fresh, hot and tasty. We all really enjoyed our food and felt the staff were helpful and very welcoming. We will return! View all feedback.
What Triskelion123 doesn't like about Cumberland Arms:
Externally the Cumberland looks like an old style pub and indeed it was one for many years. It seems Greene King thought it best to refurbish and the interior is now soulless. The only improvement is that the toilets are immaculate. Good choice of ales and lagers. However the sandwiches were massively overpriced for what was served. I expect the preparation cost was no more than 50p but the retail price was over £6. View all feedback.
The restaurant is warm and welcoming, a fantastic traditional pub with a bar and lounge area complete with a cozy open fire. They offer a selection of traditional ales and beers, including options suitable for vegans. There is an outdoor seating area at the front for smokers, and they serve food during lunchtime.
This traditional pub is charming, but the staff and regular customers were unwelcoming. If you're looking for good food and a friendly environment, I would suggest going elsewhere. I visited on a pleasant Sunday outing and regretted not passing by. The pub could use a renovation and some new faces. In a popular tourist area, they should consider updating their establishment like the other bars nearby. It felt like stepping into a Wild West saloon. Disappointing experience.
I visited the Cumberland Arms in Tynemouth on Sunday 18/07/10 and had mixed opinions. The top bar was not very busy, with maybe around 20 people, some of whom were dining and the food did look good. I decided to try the roast and was disappointed with undercooked vegetables and fatty beef. Some of the staff seemed difficult to attract if you were not standing near them. One customer even had to raise his voice to get served and was greeted by a dismissive barmaid. The male toilets were also in a poor state and in need of a good clean. Overall, it will be a while before I visit here again.
Lovely lunch at the Cumberland arms today. Fantastic friendly service and even a doggy treat for our family member. A lovely welcome by staff. We will be back.
