Contribute Feedback What Debbie B likes about Woolpack Inn:
We visited The Woolpack Inn for the first time on Tuesday, October 17th and it will definitely not be our last visit! The recent refurbishment of the restaurant has been done to a high standard. Gemma greeted us and was both professional and friendly, showing great knowledge in her role. I ordered the Hunter's Chicken and my husband had the homemade Steak and Ale pie, which was recommended by previous reviews and Gem... View all feedback.
What Westononthemove doesn't like about Woolpack Inn:
I met my friend here for coffee and cake, sadly she didn’t actually get to eat any cake as although there was a good selection of cakes to be eaten there wasn’t anything gluten free!! The last time we went there was only one choice and that was a chocolate brownie, and she’d actually rang to check if they’d anything available but this time we assumed (wrongly) that they at least might have something. I recently spent two nights at a nearby place and decided to have a meal at the Woolpack after a long day of moving my daughter into her first home. I was hoping for a nice meal, but unfortunately they were fully booked for steak dinners. After checking their website, I found a table available in 45 minutes and showed this to the barman. He confirmed that a table was available in the firepit area, but when I arrived it was very crowded. I ended up settling for two packets of expensive and not so tasty crisps for dinner. I used to frequent this restaurant often when I lived in the area, but it seems that the quality has declined. I do not plan on returning in the future.
We loved the food . The service though was sketchy we had to go to the bar for our drinks and no one offered coffees etc , then service charge was added to the bill! Very cheeky. Needless to say we didn’t pay it. The staff seemed more interested in chatting and laughing in the bar area. Would like to return when the staff have had training..
We ordered the Sunday roast and found the beef to be tender and plentiful, the roast potatoes were good, and the vegetables were not bad. However, there was not enough gravy which made the meal a bit dry. The service was not excellent but understandable as they were very busy. It seems they may need more staff in order to be more attentive to customers. I was not happy about the service charge being automatically added to the bill, as I believe it should be my decision to add a tip. Overall, the food was quite nice, but both my partner and I agreed that we probably wouldn't return due to the service and mandatory service charge.

Went for a drink, but they do not seem to be set up for that which is strange as it’s a pub. Mainly interested in food and often asked to leave tables which have no reserved signs on. Terrible selection of beer with Madri and carling. Need some decent lager and ipa’s and a section that does not feel like you are sat in a restaurant.
