What User doesn't like about The Palmtree Grill Embassy Suites North Charleston:
We got to the restaurant at around 6 pm. We told the waiter at about 6:15 when he came to our table that we were going to the theater at 7:30. He took our order brought the wine. By 6:45 we told him to cancel the soup order as we wouldn’t have time. At 7 pm we still had not been served so we left so we wouldn’t be late for the show. A very disappointing experience. My wife and I had reservations and were promptly seated. I had requested an out of the way table in terms of location, and that was honored without me asking. We have been to this restaurant many times over many years before North Charleston Performing Arts shows, and the food and service have always been excellent. If you are going to this restaurant for a 730 show, you should arrive at 515-530 pm to give the restaurant time to prepare your dishes so you can be finished by 700 pm. To their credit this is not a fast food place. I did reduce my overall rating slightly as the waitress did not stop by often enough and I had to ask for things a couple of times, but received them promptly; the restaurant was definitely busy with show patrons. The waitess was friedly and professional. The food has always been top notch; a definite surprise since a hotel restaurant . We tried the cheese plate as an appetizer this time; excellent in both presentation and taste. This restaurant is a gem!
We ate here prior to an event at the Performing Arts Center. It was super convenient to park and eat here. The food was better than I had expected and the free bottle of wine with our play tickets was a bonus. I was disappointed in the seating. I almost had to beg to not be seated directly behind the hostess stand. The restaurant was empty and I was told the other seats were for those with reservations (I had a reservation I had made earlier in the week). By the time we left 90 min later the restaurant only had 3 other tables sat at it. I'm not sure what the big issue was with the table??? For the convenience I would go back when I attend another event nearby.
Our meal and service was very good, but there was a convention in the hotel and a concert at the Coliseum so we never received our drinks. Most of the tables by us had the same problem. We ended up waiting in line at the bar ourselves to get a drink to have with our dinner. This seems to be an operational problem that needs to be fixed. People were not happy and it is not good customer service to tell customers that they would have a better chance of getting a drink on their own waiting in line at the bar than from their server. It is unfortunate because the food was good. Our server missed out on some of her tips either because everyone took their drinks off their order or were angry. Maybe when there are so many people expected the restaurant should have a dedicated bar tender to take care of the restaurant guests.
When we first arrived, there were few other diners present. The waitress finally acknowledged us and took drink orders. She returned many minutes later to take our dinner selections before we had even received our cocktails. The service only got worse as the restaurant became more crowded. To be fair, there was a big concert that night. The food was decent.
The first table we were seated at, was very sticky. We relocated to another table, and it also felt dirty. We left the restaurant and went to the bar area ,where the tables were clean. The hamburger was quite good, but the French fries were cold.
