As cosy as it can be! Well worth a detour from Stockholm City. Pet friendly, well prepared food and delicious cakes.
It 's a little bit off the beaten track, but well worth the effort, in winter there is cosy seating upstairs or on the veranda if the sun is shining, in summer the tables sprawl out onto the grass in front and allow for alfresco dining. This is a lunch place but the food served is good quality made on site items, during the week it is the typical Swedish lunch with coffee, salad and bread included, as well as a large selection of homemade cakes and cookies. I love that this is open nearly every single day of the year, with staff stating that 'as long as someone can get in they will open '. In the summer they seem to be the only place around that has ice-cream and it can mean there are long ques but the staff try to keep the ques moving as best they can. The menu is varied, having visited in winter and summer, it changes between the seasons but also keeps a certain stability, there seems to be certain items always available while in winter there is more hearty stews and summer lighter fish options. This cafe is also right next door to Stora Skuggan 4h so you can go see all the animals at the same time : I did notice last time that the usual access route is blocked by some kind of road works, but there is still an easy access track just slightly before the old access road. Well worth the walk from Universitetet Tunnelbana station.
Surprisingly enough, this place isn 't even registered on Tripadvisor, so I 'd thought I give you tourists visisting my home town a helping hand finding this place. It 's a bit tricky to get there but so worth the while, especially on a sunny day. Every time I 'm there I 'm thinking, why are there no tourists here? Probably because only locals know about it. What makes this place so special is the nature that surrounds it, happy kids playing in the meadow, and the 4H-gård (animal farm) on the back of it where you can look at horses, goats, rabbits, cows etc. Start off with a traditional fika and then go watch the animals, perfect way to spend a sunny day in Stockholm. They have plenty of choices on the menu and the food is good, such as all the pastries they serve. Big recommendation for all you tourists out there!
Our family had toddlers who needed to use the restroom before we had lunch. A man in the cafe (the owner? understood that we weren 't going to pay for the toilet visit and when we were going to do it, he thought we could still go to hell and when we wondered why he was so rude, he still said harsher things.. .so yes you will be surprised to say the least and will of course never go there again.
