**Dining Delights at Diehl's: A Mixed Bag of Experiences**
Diehl's, a restaurant with a rich legacy dating back to 1960, offers a diverse range of dining experiences that leave patrons divided. While some guests rave about the generous portions and the warm, welcoming atmosphere reminiscent of small-town charm, others express disappointment over outdated decor and uneven food quality. Highlights include perfectly cooked burgers and crispy onion rings, though criticisms arise over flavorless dishes and lukewarm service in instances. Overall, Diehl's remains a nostalgic spot that some cherish while others feel it's in need of refreshing to reclaim its former glory.

Diehl's is absolutely one of a kind, I don't ever not stop in for a meal when I'm in Nitro. You will not walk out of there not completely full and satisfied. It's the penultimate down home Appalachian country cooking comfort kitchen. I tell people about this place and I try to convince my friends to come with me because I can't preach loud enough how good this place is. Service: Dine in View all feedback.
What Sherry Levoy dislikes about Diehl's:
My great grandfather in law loved Diehl's back in the 80s (we left here in 1985) and only my oldest had ever gone, so I took my youngest and his wife. I was pretty disgusted. It was old and dirty inside, in the bathroom they used a bolt to turn the hot water on, bathroom was very dirty. Now for the food, DIL ordered the Wagyu steak. It was like dried out flat hamburger, she didn't eat it. The salads were good. The sp... View all feedback.

I had heard so much about Diehl that my expectations were quite high, and I’m happy to say the food exceeded them. I ordered the baked steak with sage, green beans, and rolls, along with a salad and chocolate cake. Everything had a homemade taste, and the chocolate cake was especially rich and fresh. However, the green beans could have used a bit more flavor. The high-quality butter served with the homemade rolls complemented the meal perfectly, and there was plenty of gravy with the baked steak. Overall, Diehl serves the kind of food that Cracker Barrel aims to achieve. I visited on a Sunday right after church, and the restaurant was bustling. The service was understandably a little slow, but I still enjoyed beverage refills and had a great experience. I definitely look forward to trying more dishes from their extensive menu.
The walls are decorated with a fascinating history! The food and service are outstanding. I had the chicken liver dinner special, available only on Saturdays, and it was superb! The staff is exceptionally friendly.
We visited this restaurant for the first time after a recommendation from a friend of my husband’s, and it was definitely worth the hour-long drive. We were not disappointed! I ordered a burger, onion rings, and coleslaw. The burger was perfectly cooked and tasted amazing, while the onion rings were crispy (not burnt) and delicious. My husband had the baked steak, with real mashed potatoes, coleslaw, and corn. He finished every last bite on his plate! I highly recommend this place; it has been in business since 1960, so they must be doing something right. The staff is friendly and well-mannered, making the experience even better. If you haven't been here yet, you're truly missing out!
This place gives you a heaping helping of food with friendly, attentive service with a smile! Well worth the extra mile off the interstate when passing through. We'll definitely stop in here again.
My wife and I make it a point to stop here every time we visit Charleston. This is our seventh visit to this restaurant, and we absolutely love the cozy atmosphere. The food is exceptional, and the portions are very generous. If you have the chance to try the cobbler when it’s in season, don’t miss it—it's amazing! Although there was one dish we didn't enjoy as much, overall, the experience is definitely worth the trip!
