Virunga National Park - Nioki

This is the National Park where you can go Gorilla trekking. Only so many permits are issued per day and you can only do guided hikes, so expect additional expense with porters as well. Permits currently are $1500 per person.

One of the most beautiful places on earth. The people, the landscape and the views will cling to you eyes and heart drawing you back time and again. The trek up Nyiragongo is tough but worth every grueling step. The gorillas plentiful, wild and heart stompingly close and real. If you are still wondering whether Virunga in the DRC is the best place to see the mountain gorillas stop. It is THE place to first meet them. It is THE place where you can meet people who are risking their lifes everyday to make this world a better place, not only for the animals, but also for the local population. Virunga staff has the security under 100% control. Mikeno lodge is first class, Senkwekwe orphanage is now open for visitors again. I would definitely come back.

Volcanic Natural place Magnificent place however it is off limits to all tourists etc etc. I would love to trek there in the middle of the jungle. However this place needs protecting from humans and left pristine. God bless you planet. You are very lucky to have been to such a beautiful place and experienced the natural wonder of nature in its purest form. I dream about this place but believe it should remain off limits to tourism as a shrine for wildlife and a point of recovery for the planet. I hope our civilisation can change their opinion and put in place what needs done to protect our very existence.
