I 've cycled past this place many times and always meant to come back and have a proper look. This morning, after a lovely walk in the nearby hills, we stopped for a glass of wine and a bite to eat. La Calchere is a wonderful example of how to bring an old industrial building, in this case a circular lime kiln, back to life. Downstairs there are small tables for a glass of wine and 'spuntini ', upstairs a few tables for simple lunches. We had a jug of very good friulano and a platter of cold meat and cheese. It was all excellent, especially the ham and melt-in-the-mouth pancetta. We 'll definitely be back for the frico and to sample their reds. Should be lovely in the summer, as well, with plenty of covered seating outside.
Beautiful outdoor space surrounded by greenery. The interior has been beautifully renovated. Good food and excellent wines.
Excellent wines, authentic cuisine, fabulous prosciutto!!! Well-kept garden surrounded by greenery!
I have to change my mind, it was a pleasant surprise, enchanting location, both inside and out, under green and shady mulberry trees, a real panacea for these temperatures. Staff, capable, friendly and efficient. Food, limited choice, but I agree, better a few and good ones. Recommended, and we will definitely return. I was a guest, I don't know the costs.
