Made to feel very welcome by the staff who remembered us from our previous visit. We used it as both a restaurant and a bar over three days and were treated to good food within a friendly convivial atmosphere. The real stars here are the staff, who cannot do enough to help, like taking time out to explain the menu (me not speaking French). They did this with all the British guests we observed. The only down side was it wasn't open on our final night in Nimes.
Beautiful restaurant very well presented ...and the staff are lovely ... I love trying new places to eat but I will be going back to try more off the lovely menu ...
We really enjoyed lunch at the Bistrot le Republique. The welcome was exceptionally friendly and the food great. The langoustines stood out but everything was decent including a very nice local red. And at under 50 euros for two people, three courses, wine and coffee, what can you say? While it very French (pretty much all the clientele were local) the waitress was happy to translate. And there was no sense that as a tourist you were any less welcome than the locals. The place was full by 1230 so get their early and enjoy!
This Bar/restaurant is well worth a visit. Short but excellent menu and wine list will not break your budget. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Added bonus is that if you like the wine you can buy a bottle to take home. We bought several
Firstly we arrived just prior to 14h and, unlike the case in many places, were welcomed in and nothing was too much trouble. The couple were cheerful and friendly though we spoke no French.Blackboard menu was explained to us in English terms. We decided on an entree of duck hearts for my partner and mains of steak and a ham, cheese and vegetable melt thing. All dishes were very very good.Duck - a new taste sensation and reportedly "yummy".Steak - small, cooked rare, and as good as any steak you'll get anywhere.Ham melt dish - hearty and tasty - the vegetable was unknown to us, on the menu as "endive" but flavours worked well.I recommend this Bistro to locals and visitors alike.
