Stumbled on this place walking in Old Nice, couldn't have had a better experience. Renato and his staff made us feel welcome and at home. Not only was the food world-class, but the wine pairings were excellent, the service was gracious, helpful, and informative, and we were invited to tour the 'cave' (wine cellar), which was amazing. What William Leger doesn't like about Les Compagnons de la Grappe:
this was not really a restaurant and not sure that I could see it during more eating oriented times. Instead, I would count this as the only owner weinladen. there were a couple of Oenotheque machines that suggested at a point, he tried more one weinbar, but he mentioned that at this point he used easy to sell wein and not to sell taste. the head-side HUGE selection, which dates back to first growth from the 1920s. t... A group of seven professional friends traveled across Europe and ended over this jewel stolpering. it was the most intimate, intimate culinary experience we had. the food was excellent and the host/owner made the experience to the highlight of our 3 weeks in Europe. he. made us a personal tour through his wine cellar, and after dinner we had tasted the most amazing scotch they could imagine! we were embarrassed to pay the bill because it was so cheap. we are used to read during the trip. we all felt that we would have paid the triple prize in toronto, new york or london. that is a must to see and eat. plan an evening at which they feed, and sit in the drawing room and muse over fine Scotch/Whiskey from all over the world.
This wasn't really a restaurant and not sure that I could see it being that way during more food oriented times. Instead I would bill this as a sole proprietor wine shop. There were a few Oenotheque machines which suggested at one point he prob ran more of a wine bar, but he mentioned that at this point he uses those simply to sell wine and not to sell tastes. The upside - HUGE selection that goes back to first growths from the 1920's. The downside - there was a very large mark-up on most of the bottles. Also - while he had some great ones, they weren't always in the best shape. And while wine-searcher noted that wine was available at a certain price, that did not appear to be true at all.

We finished the evening in a comfortable lounge sampling from an impressive selection of Scotch Whiskeys, about which Renato is remarkably knowledgeable. I consider this a Must Visit place in Nice for food, wine, and spirits.

Noticed the set lunch menu as we were strolling by, it seemed interesting so we sat down at a table outside. What a pleasant surprise, Fantastic tasty food, attentive service(water and bread replenished without us asking) and the best value for money in Nice. Highly recommended, we will definitely visit again.
