We never had any problems with this cafe and it was in walking distance from our hotel to stop for breakfast. The food was good and convenient but a tad pricey but what you expect next to train station. One problem for us was the tables never being clear when we went and possibly not enough seating. Today we visited Paul's with the family for a cappuccino. The lady was very rude and had the worst attitude ever. The cappuccino was awful and cold. My daughter returned the cappuccino as it was disgusting. Instead of an apology the lady threw the cup to one side and swore at my 14 year daughter in French. A French gentleman next to us was in shock at the ladies attitude and also told the lady she was wrong. Instead of responding, she continued to be abusive and rude.
I assumed Paul would be jealous of its reputation and that I could rely on the quality of the sandwiches purchased there to take on the TGV to Paris. I was sadly mistaken. These were by far the worst sandwiches I have ever encountered. Pale, flabby baguettes only half filled by processed cheese and tastless ham. Shame on you, Francis Holder.
Its like the golden arches of French food. It's not that good. But if you are hungry and in a hurry it wont kill you. Only eat here if you have a train to catch.
The only reason one should buy stuff from this bakery is just because you have no other option. Paul is a big name and you have outlets all over France, but i have been t this one 3 times and every time i found the stuff too overpriced for the quality.Last time i had to go for an interview to Marseille, so i bought 1 Pain au chocolat 1 Croissant, 1 chicken Sandwich and 1 muffin. The croissant wasn't crisp and it felt like stale, the pain au chocolat was over baked almost burnt, the chicken sandwich had chicken pieces tough as a rubber and many of them were charred black so even the chicken was overcooked. The muffin was awesome and the only thing that i liked. I am sorry to write a negative review but it wasn't the first time. Better buy some stuff from other bakeries as this one is too overpriced for the bad quality of food they serve.
Paul's is directly in front of the train station. Pastries, sandwiches, coffee, etc. If you are looking for something to just tie you over or to take on the train then this is the place. The food is good and the prices are cheap. I got a bacon and cheese toasted pretzel for 1.45 euro and it held me over for a few hours till dinner. We would recommend.
