Olympic Cafe - Ngatea
Olympic Cafe
Description
Nestled on the route through Ngatea, this spacious roadside café is praised for friendly, personal service, clean, accessible seating and a wide, affordable menu of pies, rolls, pastries, hot chips and excellent coffee (plus milkshakes and cold drinks). Regulars highlight fresh, generous portions and gluten-free options; owners are welcoming. A few guests note occasional inconsistencies (esp. bacon/fish availability) and a tired toilet/dining corner. Overall it’s a dependable, family-friendly stop for quick breakfasts, lunches or takeout.

Only stopped on the way through for coffee, hot chips and toilet, but was sufficiently impressed to write a quick review. Very clean inside, out front on footpath and behind counter, all food looked fresh (chips hot and very tasty) and very good coffee, all at a reasonble price. Will stop there again for a proper lunch! This was our first time here. Best freshest Chicken filled Roll. More than enough to share. Coffee was good. We will remember to come back on our way south. Service was extra friendly. Thank you Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: NZ$1–10 Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4
Steak and kidney pie was jam packed with big, tender chunks of steak and lots of kidney. Hardly any room left for the tasty gravy. Coffee is pretty good as well . A nice traditional cafe. Always a good stop off. Service: Dine in Meal type: Brunch Price per person: NZ$10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4
