This small eatery of three tables and a drum in Newport Melbourne offers all of the ambiance, menu and personal touch that living in a family would offer, except you don't have to do the washing up when you are done. The two women who preside over this restaurant make a point of sharing with you where the ingredients of your meal have been sourced, which is from local Victorian farmers through local farmers' markets. Their food philosophy seems to be to put food on the plate which is seasonal, sustainably farmed and based on sound nutritional wisdom. You can feel it all doing you good.I ordered a scrumptious soup with gluten free bread, my dining companion ordered a Breaky Tartlet. We shared a Quinoa, roasted beetroot and silverbeet salad topped with fetta cheese and zatar dressing, yum. The soup came with several slices of warm toast, cut into triangles and served with a pot of butter. I finished this with homemade masala chai latte made on soya milk and my dining companion had one of their hot chocolates. We shared a dessert of Flourless curd tart and polenta cake served with cream. We sat around a long table where three other people were already mid meal. The intimacy of this room made cross conversation seem perfectly natural and enjoyable. Eating in this environment and with this personal touch brings back the relationship we should have with food and which we have lost in our culture of fast foods and factory farming. The impact of wholesome and thoughtfully grown and lovingly prepared food is just too obvious to fully capture with mere words.Prices are embarrassingly modest. Average of $14 for a main course. For desserts $2.50 to $7. Beverages are at $3.80 to $4.50. If you are visiting Melbourne give yourself a special treat and check this place out. This is where we should be going with what and how we eat.
I visited this restaurant because of the live jazz that was advertised for a Saturday eveningIt is a small and charming restaurant.

We hired Betty Stella to cater for 80 people at our Engagement Party last weekend in October 2015. They arrived promptly, set up efficiently, provided delicious food, and even went the extra mile by assisting with serving the cake. The Prawns wrapped in Wanton pastry were a particular hit. Our guests were impressed by the impeccable service and my fiancée's parents were able to relax and enjoy themselves without having to lift a finger. Overall, we had a fantastic time and would highly recommend Betty Stella to anyone in need of catering for their event.
Wonderful caterers and lovely ladies to boot! Highly recommend
