By fat some of the worst food I've eaten in years! The ribs look either boiled or baked, they are gray colored and smothered in a red sauce that tastes nothing like bbq. Pretty gross, my babe almost threw up. The fried chicken was so dark and oil soaked. Completely inedible and had no seasoning at all. This restaurant in the peninsula serves the best North Carolina BBQ. The portions are generous and the service is fast and friendly. It reminded me of the BBQ from my childhood in Pine Level, NC.
The entire experience, from the service to the food, was wonderful. We were even treated to complimentary hush puppies with our meal. The deviled eggs were deliciously creamy and the pork ribs were so tender they practically fell off the bone.
I ordered a quarter chicken with two sides, baked beans and cole slaw. The cole slaw was tasty, but the baked beans were too sweet for my liking. The chicken was cooked well, but it had a sweet BBQ sauce on it and lacked the smoky flavor I was expecting. I was disappointed as I was hoping for more of that signature smoke flavor at this restaurant.
We thoroughly enjoyed all of our dishes at this restaurant. The hushpuppies were particularly exceptional. Amongst our group, we tried the BBQ, crab cakes, and chicken and dumplings, and each dish was delicious. We will definitely be returning in the future. Overall, we rated the food 5 out of 5.
