Late lunch on the water with my husband. Food was wonderful, perfectly cooked. Seafood tasted fresh and lightly breaded, which is just how we like it. New waitress in town was so sweet and very good at her job. Very attentive and made sure everything was perfect. Drinks were fantastic. The view at this restaurant is absolutely gorgeous. Will definitely be back again. Highly recommend! View all feedback.
What Peggy C doesn't like about Crab Shack On The James:
I had the calamari, seafood platter with baked potato I personally didn’t like anything we ordered. I did enjoy the peach cheesecake it was the best thing we ordered. The drinks were amazing! So I recommend this place for the dessert and drinks! View all feedback.
4.5 stars, 5 stars for service. The only reason I took 1/2 star is that the crab cake is not on Virginia standards, especially in a place called Crab Shack. However, Fried Calamari at the high end are 100% Italian, Oysters 10/10 and black tuna bits as well. It is always refreshing to hear that a restaurant is from a menu item, it tells me that it is fresh. The second time here and it becomes an ordinary. The ambience is unbeatable and I live 6 minutes away. Cocktails are on the strong side.
Great atmosphere and saw Poros on James! The food was good. Loved the fresh Calamari. Grilled fish plate was a little fat and did not taste so fresh. Strong drinks safe. Lachs sandwich and burgers were great that I was told. I'd go back to drink and lunch.
An increasing flood lifts all boats. I want to think how every single person does that I am the center of the universe, and that what I think or say will fall as thunderbolts to change the rough edges I discover. Crane Shack on James is a hard nuts also for thunderbolts it has been around for a long time and has accumulated 2.060 reviews on Google Maps alone with what it has been away for years. I think it has earned the 3.9 points that have averaged these reviews, and not quite the 4.0 points I award here. Who stands for marginal mediocrity? Few would argue that the location is not ideal for a seafood restaurant, although the view is not the powerful Rolling Atlantic Ocean, but the somewhat more modest historical mother of Jamestown Colony still, there is a miles wide extension of the James River to consider while you expect your cocktails and your seafood dinner. What happened here, I'm afraid, is that the Crab Shack is on the James content to slide at 3.9 for the next eternity perhaps even to 3.0 over time. You can die here without, unless you are allergic to seafood. You could get drunk here without really enjoying your drink of choice. I do not know whether Crab Shack actually has a boss or a bearder for this matter at the moment: and if it is content to shorten its claws over the old seas, we cannot expect any aspiration, no modification, no challenges for the palate. What we have is a lot to eat, fried or broiled; decent salads, decent French frits, decent service, ordinary prices for what we get. Started on the waters of 20. Century, maybe the discoveries at Crab Shack are over on James. I want to feel that it would shoot for a 5. But something deep has to change.
The restaurant was made of a lot of items, including crabs. How could a place called Crab The house is made of crab. Service is sucked. We never saw our waitress. Food was good for seafood and for the price. For more dressing for Cole Slav from waiter and host lasted 10 minutes to get it. View was absolutely beautiful.
Amanda was a great server, the food was delicious (crab legs and tuna sandwich), the banana margarita was awesome, and got the carrot cake to go! Love the views at the Crab Shack on the James... just wish I could have ordered the clams casino, which they don't have on the menu anymore, but everything else was good.
