We visited Balboa Island and stumbled upon this charming restaurant! Though it's small, the atmosphere is very welcoming. It was late, but the food looked too good to pass up, so we decided to have a light dinner. We ordered the lasagna and veal cannelloni, and both dishes were simply amazing! What User doesn't like about Trattoria Italiano:
This is a tiny restaurant with no more than 10 tables. During my visit, there was no air conditioning, making it quite warm inside. The service was somewhat slow. The food was decent, but not exceptional. I ordered the Bolognese and asked the server if it was made with meat sauce. He assured me it was, but it turned out to be Marinara sauce with meatballs instead. I wouldn't recommend it. View all feedback.
I had higher expectations for this restaurant. The food was just okay, and while the service started off well when we were seated, it took a turn for the worse after we placed our orders. They served us tap water without asking if we wanted anything else; I was thinking of ordering a different drink, but no one checked in to see how we were doing or offered any refills. My pasta was bland, and I had to get up and fetch my own salt and pepper. Additionally, when the staff brought out our plates, they didn’t say “excuse me” and nearly bumped into me. I understand it’s a small restaurant, but a little communication would go a long way. Overall, I don’t think it was worth the price we paid.
Great food, Great ambiance. Took me back to an Italian vacation. Pasta's are great and the tiramisu... so spongy and just melts.
Family run business with exceptional food!! A must if you visit Balboa! The restaurant reminds me of small little restaurants in Europe with a great menu and all the plates with great flavor. Small wine menu but high quality with a good range of prices.

We were here for an early dinner after we had spent the afternoon at Balboa. Very delicious food and fast service!
