Not only was the food delicious and the venue a historic gem, our bartender, Zach, was top notch! Very friendly and gave us tons of recommendations for places to hit during our vacation here. View all feedback.
What Zella Batz doesn't like about White Horse Tavern:
the white horse is certainly not what it was earlier. it was the place to go for a special dinner due to the ambientes, eating and service. I was there twice in the last weeks and both of them were disappointed. in any case it has lost its elegance; there is no more dress code to talk, eating is simply ok, and the service is moderate. I will not come back unless I hear some positive reviews. View all feedback.
Arrived early with my husband at 4pm after calling for reservation but only one other table taken so got right in for our first time here. It was still the lunch menu, which we didn't mind because entrees at dinner are pricier. Read the reviews so decided to try the Scottish duck egg as an appetizer and we loved it! Never had one but well worth trying. Crispy fried sausage crust. One egg but comes in half so great for sharing. Shared a Caesar salad which was very good. Lobster mac cheese was light and delicious! Hubby had hamburger with a fried egg, carmalized onions and cheddar cheese and said it was delicious. Hand cut fried to die for! Our waitress was Emily and she was very nice. Drinks were good too. Didn't have dessert, too full and we took half of our meal home. Will definitely go back.
I made this a special occasion by having a dram of 16 yo single malt scotch Lagavulin to be exact. It was great to sit at the bar with friends and be at such a historic place and think about the countless souls that have come and gone through this spot. The oldest tavern in the USA, 10th oldest in the world.
The food and hospitality were outstanding. Tim was a great waiter. The manager was also wonderful. I had the shrimp and pork belly sandwich and John had the Ruben Cuban. We'd go here again. A special thanks for letting us leave our car in your lot while went to city hall to find the Newport 1179 ship's bell. John got to ring it one more time. Thanks for everything.
We had the lobster bisque, fois gras, monk fish, and aged steak. It was all excellent and by far the best dinner we had in Newport! Service was great as well.
