A positive from lockdown is that this pub had been taken over by a new operator who has put a lot of love into it in terms of the appearance, team and kitchen generally raising the bar. The service has been absolutely amazing every time I’ve been in and finally had a chance to dine here with friends. The food is really fantastic pub food executed incredibly well. The chorizo scotch eggs were gorgeous, the fish chips... View all feedback.

What george g dislikes about Forest Tavern:
A lovely place after the refurb, good food and excellent staff, which remains the case. Unfortunately it’s now been taken over by the kind of selfish parents who think it’s their front room and that everyone should make allowances for their badly behaved kids. Couldn’t even stay for lunch at 2pm on a Friday as it was like a crèche. Shame, as I shall miss the place and it’s not the (excellent) staff’s fault. View all feedback.

Handily situated just outside the station, this venerable old barn of a pub has been fashionably modernised in a pleasingly minimalist way, and wouldn't look out of place in far more trendier locations than this unlikely east end outpost. Barely anybody in when we called in one weekday lunchtime. Certainly plenty of room in the large front bar and even more so at the rear which seemed more geared up for events or multi-dining. We were here for a spot of lunch, and the abbreviated but interesting menu certainly had appeal. We played it rather safe with the classic cheese and bacon burger but were not disappointed. Faultless burger and tasty relish plus ample more-ish fries were just the job. We were lubricating with a few pints of the house bitter, and I have to say that it was kept perfectly and at a temperature that was very refreshing on such a hot day. There were only two staff on duty and both were friendly and efficient whilst managing the few punters with ease. Long way from home for me, but I'd be happy to call it my local if I lived in the vicinity

The service has been absolutely amazing every time I’ve been in and finally had a chance to dine here with friends. The food is really fantastic pub food executed incredibly well. The chorizo scotch eggs were gorgeous, the fish chips and Sausage Mash dome really well and the roast pork my wife had was awesome. I regret not coming here sooner and suggest that anyone in the area give it a whirl.

No booking for a recent Sunday but despite being busy we were found a table. Meal took a while to arrive but we cannot fault the welcome service. The beer was not to my taste but that’s life. Our roast beef and the belly of pork were very nice, decent portions, very tasty. Dog friendly which is nice. Could do with a water bowl and a few treats to add to the experience. We will return, thank you.

Really lovely pub with delicious food. It may be expensive but absolutely worth it.

The food, the atmosphere, the staff, the drinks we're all on point and every penny spent was worth it. I definitely recommend this place for the roast on Sunday and I'll definitely be back when I'm back in the country.
