I got great value for my money at this restaurant. I opted for the Maharaja's banquet, which provided a generous amount of food for five and a half people. The variety of salads and appetizers served was delightful. This place is a great lunch option and I especially enjoyed the hot and spicy Dahi Toast. Recommended! View all feedback.
Updated from my previous 2018 review to reflect a new location in the market and price increases. Situated in a most pleasant section of Grainger Market, away from the sight and rancid stench of the butchers and fishmongers. The vibrant Snackwallah has found such an extremely popular home here. You will find delicious Indian street food at fantastic prices. We had a pakora plate with chutneys at £4, a curry of the day for £7 and a bowl of dhal with rice at £5. Two cups of spicy massala chai tea at £2 each made a most reasonable £20 Lunch for two. Plenty of seating is now available. Vegan Indian street food in Newcastle! Who said modern life was rubbish? Snackwallah has been on my list of places to try for a while, but every time I attempted to go, there was always a long line and a full seating area, which deterred me as I am not very patient. However, this is probably a testament to its popularity. I ordered the pickled pakora wrap with pani puri and a masala chai. The total came to £11.50, but the portion sizes were generous and could easily have been shared by two people since the wrap was already cut in half. I would recommend sharing a variety of dishes with a friend rather than each ordering your own meal. I was disappointed that they do not serve coffee, but they kindly directed me to their market stall neighbor for a coffee option. I settled for the masala chai, which was served promptly. The food arrived quickly, the staff were friendly, and the menu on the blackboard was easy to read. The pani puri came with a side of green chutney, which I used to dip my wrap in - it was delicious. I was surprised to learn that everything was vegan, as I could not tell from the taste of the masala chai or yogurt. The colorful frontage of the restaurant really stands out among the other market stalls. They have plenty of seating space and are easy to find, located near Grainger Street. Overall, I had a great experience at Snackwallah and will definitely be returning, even if there is a queue.
Unfortunately, the curry of the day was already sold out when I visited, but the waiter was very helpful and friendly in assisting me choose another dish. The food was full of flavor! I will definitely be returning.
This was my first time visiting this restaurant and I decided to try the bhaji wrap - it was absolutely delicious! Priced at just £5, the wrap was bursting with flavor and every bite was a delight. I am eager to come back and sample the other menu options.
