Cross Park - Newark
Cross Park
Description
A longtime family-owned diner in Newark, NY, Cross Park serves a huge all-day menu with generous, homey portions that attract locals and day-trippers. Standout dishes (fish fry, chopped sirloin, stuffed peppers, meatloaf) and friendly, attentive service win frequent praise, while other items can be inconsistent or overcooked. The room and restrooms are notably clean, but expect occasional slow service, menu/price mismatches and rare food-safety complaints. Best for families, breakfast seekers and travelers — experiences vary by visit.

The food was excellent, and the service was good overall. Although the restaurant could have used more staff, our waitress did a fantastic job given how busy it was. A little patience goes a long way!
So we had a greek chicken salad, chicken parm, alfredo with chicken and shrimp, steak sandwich, grilled cheese and spaghetti and meatballs. With.chicken soup as a starter. The soup was excellent. The steak sandwich was an actual steak when sliced steakwas the expectation. The red sauce was good. The chicken parm was over.cooked. the spaghetti and meatballs and grilled cheesewere good. Otherwise the food qas mediocre. Plus it took a really long time to get our food. But the waitress was great.Checkimg back regularly and being sure not to put anything in the baby's reach.
My experience at this restaurant was quite disappointing. The server was unprofessional, and the food didn't live up to expectations. I ordered the hot roast beef with mashed potatoes, but the potatoes were flavorless, reminiscent of instant potatoes without any butter or seasoning. The roast beef was old, tough, and dry, and the gravy was thick and bland. I spent $40 on my meal, bringing two kids with me, but none of us enjoyed the food. By the time we got to the car, I felt nauseous and ultimately ended up with food poisoning. I tried to reach out to the owner, but he refused to speak with me. I wouldn't recommend this place. While breakfast might attract a decent crowd, lunch was terrible. My kids and I all agreed we would have been better off at McDonald's.
I recently visited Cross Park Family Restaurant for the first time and was pleasantly surprised by my experience. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the staff was very friendly and helpful, though they were a bit pushy at times. The food was excellent and reasonably priced, especially considering current inflation. The restrooms were very clean, and the overall cleanliness of the restaurant was impressive, almost spotless. I'm giving it 4 stars, as nobody's perfect.
I was quite disappointed with my experience at the restaurant. The food did not meet my expectations. The website advertised the deep-fried cauliflower for $6.99, but I was told it actually cost $9.99 because the menu was outdated. I ended up paying $32 for a turkey dinner that included the dry deep-fried cauliflower. To make matters worse, they were out of baked potatoes. I also ordered a burger, but the waitress either forgot about it or lost interest in my order—I can't say for certain. Overall, both the food and service left much to be desired.
