Best Prime Rib I have had in a long time. Cut with a fork, no really with a fork. And my wife's filet was just as good. The chicken liver appetizer was special, and so was the Onion soup. Add it all up it was a large, but special meal. First time there in a long time. I now do not know why I waited so long to go back. We had migrated to Ranch, but the Haunted House is do much better. What User doesn't like about J. Bruner's At The Haunted House:
I love going to the Haunted House restaurant for ambiance of the lovely old house , so I thought it would be perfect place to go for Halloween. BUT.... the food was cold and very pricey. The menu was just ok. Fried shrimp was good, salads not so much, prime rib was cold and so were the baked potatoes. I really wanted it to be good, but we all were very disappointed. Based on the google reviews, we went into this without high expectations. We were pleasantly surprised by our experience. We went with an office party of 15+ people, and the staff communicated well with the reservation and was amazingly friendly the whole time. They did get a few things wrong here and there, but nothing that wasn't easily fixed. They let us wander around the house and gave a great history of the property. The owner even came out upon request and told us some more history of the house and the neat things that have happened since he purchased the property. Everyone was super friendly and the service was great. The food was good. The apps we got were amazing. For main course I got the deep fried lobster tail which was really good, and my wife got a steak. Her steak was seasoned well and cooked pretty close to order. A couple other folks' steaks were a little over cooked, but that happens sometimes and the kitchen was more than happy to recook them upon request. The asparagus was a little under seasoned in my non-foody opinion, but I would rather it under than over. The asparagus was still nice and crunchy so I thought it was cooked well. The potatoes were good and the french onion soup was excellent. This is a neat piece of Oklahoma history. The new owners are appearing to try to keep the history alive, and even have a portrait of the previous owner hanging above a fireplace mantle which is really special. They have news articles about the property on the walls and are more than eager to share their story with anyone that asks. If you love Oklahoma City and want to experience eating in a restaurant that was converted from a house built in 1937 with lots of history (including murders! , this is a neat place to visit. Edit: It appears they are now closed.
Closing down, new years day last day operating, out of most everything on menu, wait staff doing there best, but hands tied by nothing left to serve but cold prime rib.
I have always wanted to go to the Haunted House Restaurant and then found out they are closing! I finally made it and it was wonderful! My husband had the fried lobster and it was amazing!! Cooked perfectly and a very generous portion. I had the chicken pasta which was similar to a chicken scampi. It was delicious as well. The service was great! Hope someone else picks up the restaurant and reopens it!
Christmas turkey/ham dinner was not up to past holiday visits. I can purchase the same meal for $10 not $40+,and have a better meal. There was nothing special abut this restaurant holiday dinner menu. I will not return for Thanksgiving or Christmas.
Excellent as always...one of the best OKC has to offer.
