No seats, but friendly staff. $3 side ring was soft and good, with absolutely delicious screed, but a little small. the beyond classic was incredible. I would definitely recommend this place. updated by previous review on 2021-07-27
This place is great. it is a little outside of the stand directly next to scall and weber, a butcher shop that has a whole series of history. the kiosk (or "sausage bar" sells a lot of loaded hotdogs that come locally from right next door, but they have a vegan menu with beyond sausages! I have forgotten to make a picture of the vegan menu, but they can find it online and I have included a picture here. the personal was friendly and very courteous when I asked about the place and if they had any vegan sides – what they do! the German potato salad is vegan (it is edgy and so is the gurkensalat. I think the soft bretzel may be vegan and also as most soft bretzels are, but I did not ask to check so to make sure. great experience overall and eating was delicious!
As vegetarians visiting New York, we were disappointed that we couldn't enjoy the classic dish of a hotdog. After doing some research, we discovered Stubes, one of the few places that offers vegan versions. Despite the long trek from our Chelsea location, we decided to give it a try. It's a small and charming old-school spot with lively music playing, giving off a nostalgic 1950s vibe. Unfortunately, the service was incredibly poor and unfriendly, bordering on hostile. We were the only customers there and were treated poorly by the indifferent girl at the outdoor serving window. Our order consisted of two vegan hotdogs, a subpar potato salad, and greasy potato pancakes, which ended up costing nearly $40. The experience was marred by free insults and a lack of hospitality. When I requested pickles on my hotdog, I was scolded for asking and received a minuscule portion as an afterthought. It was evident that we were not welcome, and I could understand why there were no other patrons on a Saturday afternoon. I recommend avoiding this establishment. The only vegetarian option available was the vegan hotdog, which was a rare find in the city.
The food was decent, the service was very indifferent, and the prices were reasonable for New York City. Overall, the sausage had a strong flavor and the bun was also tasty. The staff appeared to not want to be there or engage in conversation, perhaps they were having a bad day.
