Khao soi was disappointing Overall dish was bland and chicken drumsticks while fall off the bone were clearly overcooked. Braised pork leg on rice was fantastic, though, and Tom kha flavourful. Delivery was quick! View all feedback.
What Corey R doesn't like about Thai Hot Box:
The Pad Thai doesn't list that there is tofu as an ingredient. Unfortunately I have a tofu allergy, so I was forced to comb through and pick out all the tofu. Flavor was great, just a heads up they don't list all the ingredients. View all feedback.
I found the Khao Soi to be quite disappointing. The overall dish lacked flavor, and while the chicken drumsticks were tender, they were clearly overcooked. On the other hand, the braised pork leg served with rice was fantastic, and the Tom Kha was full of flavor. On a positive note, the delivery was quick!
In the decade I've spent living in NYC, I've tried over ten Thai restaurants, and this one is definitely the best!
I wonder if people really appreciate what a hidden gem this restaurant is. As a Thai person, I can tell you that in Thailand, you'd seek out specific night markets or stalls renowned for their expertise in a single dish, with each vendor specializing in just that. However, every dish I’ve tried here during my six visits has been exceptional and reminds me of home. You must try the curried Khao Soi noodles with tender chicken that literally falls off the bone, or the beef stew with meatballs made from a bone broth that has a deep flavor developed from hours of simmering. While you can certainly enjoy beloved classics that you're already familiar with to understand how this place stands out, I highly encourage you to explore something new. Many offerings, like the Chiang Mai sausage or the crispy pork belly served over rice or noodles, aren’t usually found at other restaurants. This is the creation of a true master chef who takes pride in her craft. They also provide all the necessary extras—no skimping here. The setting is small and unpretentious, with just a few tables, but the staff are incredibly sweet and welcoming. Takeout is reliably quick, and food is packed in high-quality containers secured with plastic wrap to prevent any spills. The portions are generous as well.
Delicious and flavorful!! Wish there were more noodles but they are thin
