Within a stones throw of Sardis and Carmines this hole in the wall is an absolute if you want authentic Chinese food and want to stay in the theatre district. The hot and sour soup has an outstanding flavor and not too spicy for those that can't handle the heat. We asked for the kitchen to make two dishes not on the menu...muxu pork and stir fried green beans. Both were devine. The green beans especially were to perf... View all feedback.
What Eric Gill doesn't like about China River:
Seems like classic NY Chinese restaurant should be like. But the food is just ok—gotta think there’s a lot better around here though. Rice, soup and dishes pretty bland and meh. Sesame and orange chicken seem like they aren’t sauces made in house although the chicken was cooked well.Food: 3/5 View all feedback.
I took 3 of my grandsons, 12-15. We really enjoyed our dining experience. Our server was super friendly and very accommodating. The crispy orange chicken was best we've ever had anywhere! Will definitely g again next time we're here.Kid-friendliness: Our server helped my youngest learn to use chop sticks. Gave him a set to take home.
AMAZING FOOD AND SERVICE. I 100% recommend the Orange Chicken, it’s crispy, juicy, and the PERFECT mix of spice and flavor. Our waiter was the best, he was nice, helpful, and even taught my little cousin how to use chopsticks. We will be coming back and I hope you go! Enjoy!Food: 5/5
We were in a rush to get to the theater across the street and the service was quick and right off the wok! So delicious and fresh! And the prices are great tooFood: 5/5
My daughter and I found China River awhile ago when we went in to see a show, we got there minutes after opening and loved everything about it. We have been back several times since, including last week with the rest of the family . Everything is fresh and tasty. Their lunch specials are great served with chicken corn egg drop soup which was the best I've ever had.we have had the dinners too and we usually share a dish as we get the pork dumplings to start and they are yummy. My son got a pork dish and my husband got Mongolian beef which he loved. We split an orange chicken which was great. They will lighten the spice if requested. My husband and I are going again tonight, love their food, wich they were in NJ near me! Prices are pretty fair, especially for their location.
We went after the theatre and were immediately seated and served. Cody was our server and he was excellent—efficient, pleasant and helpful. We had the China Star to drink and it was a lovely specialty drink with pomegranate juice, Chinese wine, and other ingredients. I’ll definitely be returning.Food: 5/5
