I was unsure of what to expect at this restaurant. At first glance, the menu seemed good but fairly standard. However, after taking my first bite of the gazpacho, I realized I was completely mistaken and was in for a delicious culinary adventure. Each dish that came out was infused with layers of flavor, making each bite unique.
The food and service were amazing. Tonight, we had a tomato-heirloom salad, various pasta dishes, roasted carrots, potatoes, and a sunflower dessert with cream. The bread was exceptional, especially with the butter. We were very impressed with the waiter and highly recommend this restaurant.
Beautiful New Year's Supper with dear friends, delicious food. excellent wine list. Superior service for children or any age. we felt completely safe to eat inside and it was calm. perfect night as always.
Good vibes and good service. Got French toast, pasta, donuts, and the shrimp soup. The shrimp soup was a little too salty but everything else was amazing. Came here for a birthday but they put Congratulations on the plate instead which was cute hahah. Will come back to try the rest
Staff is professional, the food is a bit pricey for the size and portion and they have a limited variety of food types. Their pasta is very good. Desserts are excellent. Need reservations on most days, but you will enjoy it.
Union Square Cafe continues to impress with its iconic old-NY ambiance and diverse menu offerings. While some dishes may be on the salty side, the pasta dishes are standout, with perfectly al dente noodles and rich flavors. The atmosphere is perfect for a date or business dinner, and the service is top-notch. The menu offers a balanced selection of dishes, all cooked and seasoned well. Additionally, the prix fixe menu is a great deal, making Union Square Cafe a must-try in NYC for those looking for a memorable dining experience.

My partner and I decided to dine at USC last night without a reservation and were lucky enough to snag a table. We were warmly welcomed by Monique, the Sommelier, who first treated us to a glass of USC's own Tassin, which we found to be absolutely delightful. Monique then introduced us to a vintage Billecart-Salmon Cuvee that truly impressed us. To cap off our evening, she suggested a remarkable Madeira that was the best I've ever tasted. Michael guided us through the menu and made some excellent recommendations for our meal. Chris, the manager, made sure everything was perfect before we left. Thank you USC for a fantastic dining experience! - Will Phyl from Whitestone
Union Square Cafe is a beloved New York classic that holds a special place in the hearts of many in the neighborhood and beyond. I am eagerly anticipating the reopening of this fantastic restaurant in the spring of 2016.
As the restaurant prepares to move to 19th street in the spring, they are serving larger portions than ever (clearly trying to use up their supplies) and some of the favorite dishes are no longer available. Calamari seems to be a popular choice among diners, and I made sure to enjoy one last USC burger before the restaurant closes. I am hopeful that the new venue will still offer the same quality and consistency that we have come to expect from this place.
I 'm so sorry to see this grand old lady leave. It 's always been such a treat to dine there. Hopefully, with the new location will come some new personnel. Danny Meyer has always been known for his well trained help from the time of reservation to the end of the meal. This hostess was the worst! Yes, we were a tad early, but were not seated until 45 minutes after our reservation time (even though , upon arrival, she told us that we would be on time). She never kept us informed and seemed annoyed when we asked how much longer ? The no tipping was not in effect there. Hopefully, things will again be GREAT with the new USC!
Fortunately we were in town and able to enjoy lunch at this location the last week they were in this location. As always the food and service lived up to our expectations. Looking forward to next time we are in town at the new Union Square Cafe.

Understated restaurant with classic food done well loved the trout main and the broccoli appetiser, and the drink offerings are quite impressive. Service was helpful and friendly!
Decided to try after reading Danny Meyer’s book, and did not fail to impress. Great hospitality from the staff and the duck ragu pasta and the porterhouse steak were one of the best i’ve had. Would highly recommend as this restaurant definitely has that extra edge that makes it special and elegant, yet casual at the same time.
How can I give 6 stars? A fantastic experience. The place is elegant but also fresh. Excellence food. Perfect service that will provide you nice suggestions. One of my favourite in Manhattan!
I really wanted to give this place 5 stars, but while the food was amazing the service was meh. The place wasn’t even full, and they took forever to bring our drinks and food. We had to call the waitress several times. Also they didn’t ask about any allergies or aversions, and I had a terrrible experience. Not their fault though, but they did nothing about it. Come here for the food, but don’t expect to get the best service, and be prepared for a generous check
Union Square Cafe is an iconic restaurant in NYC. Three of us had dinner last evening and the Cafe continues too give patrons a 5-star experience. A warm greeting, as well as a most professional and helpful service became backdrops for some wonderful dishes. Green gazpacho, Steelhead Trout, and Branzino we’re all attractively presented and tasted delicious. We enjoyed a wonderful dining experience.

With so many great restaurant options in NYC, it can be overwhelming, but I would definitely recommend this be on your list. The service was perfect. Our server was friendly, patient, knowledgeable, and welcoming. At no point did we feel rushed, and he made sure we enjoyed everything that was brought out. The food and drinks were amazing. The menu provides a balanced selection to satisfy most people. The food was cooked and seasoned well, and the portion sizes were appropriate. This is a place I would definitely return to the next time I am in town.
Nice, old-NY atmosphere. Bread and butter tasted quite bland. Nothing special to the bread especially since nowadays, a lot of places are upgrading their game on that portion of dinner. Pasta wise, we ordered the spaghetti fra diavolo and mafaldine all 'anatra. The spaghetti was a knockout––wonderfully flavored, it was fantastic. The same can 't be said about the mafaldine. To both of our tastebuds, it was a bit too salty. For entree, we had the roasted duck breast. I 'm someone who usually likes eating the skin but this time around, I didn 't like that part too much. Otherwise the duck was okay, and I hoped the portion would be bigger given it 's classified as an entree dish. Dessert, though, was very good. The panna cotta was a great choice.
Union square cafe is still a worthy contender for a quick lunch or a celebratory experience. Love the atmosphere and diverse menu offerings. The $45 prix fixe is a pretty decent deal.
Coming in to dine at USC was elegant. Even at the bar it felt lively and service was amazing. I had their beef tartare w/ chips, duck pasta, lamb and their white truffle dessert. I loved both their gin drinks since I am a gin type of girl and also had two glasses of wine which complimented my dishes. I will be back for more.
Great ambiance, great service. I have to ding stars because the food is generally too salty. The olives and salted butter weren’t a great combo for the bread. The pasta was amazing, perfectly al dente with a rich, varied flavor. The olive oil poached cod was uniquely soft with a great tomato and bean base to complement. I want to revisit to try other dishes, but not sure when I would do it. I think there are other places in NYC I could try first.

A classy restaurant with a rich history, it was the perfect place for an office birthday. My colleague and I were spoiled with lunch in the City...a gourmet black angus beef burger grilled to medium-well perfection washed down with a fresh cucumber, jalapeño, cilantro cocktail was just to my taste. I tasted the gazpacho as well, delicious.
Lovely interior with amazing drinks and great food! The garlic potato chips and Bibb salad are a must. Can?t go wrong with any pasta on the menu.

Amazing new location,(Formerly Cafe Iguana in the 90’s then City Crab in 2000’s excellent wine list cocktail menu, food service is always top notch
Still fantastic, after all these years! Every ingredient in the dishes stood on their own and tasted fabulous. A lot of thought and work was put in to put out a cohesive and “effortless” plate of sumpteous food. All against the back drop and laid back atmosphere of the new Union Square Cafe. Oh, last but not least, the dessert: strawberry pavlova with mint, to die for!! And of course the people are super knowledgeable and sweet!
Fantastic service and really nice atmosphere. Cocktails were creative and very good (the almond negroni was superb). Terrific wine list. The bread's reputation preceded it, with good reason! The pea salad was incredibly fresh. The gnocchi were heavenly and we have no idea how they can possibly make them so light and pillowy. The frascatelli was excellent. For sides, we had squash and the white beans the squash was great but the beans were outstanding. Highly recommend!
Fantastic food great staff. Hillary Ackerman the Maitre’D is New York’s best.
Food is delicious and service is top notch! They also have a wonderful surprise which is very unique from most restaurants... tip is included in your meal

My 12 year old daughter introduced me to this place and it was delightful. The service was exceptional and the food was delicious. The menu had just the right amount of variety without being overbearing. I'll definitely come again. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $20–30
Came here to celebrate a birthday and I was very impressed. The multiple 5 star reviews are on point. The food was wonderful and good portioned. Zucchini Carpaccio was a great way to start the night. The chicken scarpiello was amazing. Very rich and yet simple. Even the garlic sauce that came with the bread was amazing. The only dish that didn't hit the high marks was the special appetizer, duck confit tater tots with caviar. The tots were overly fried and the breading was the focus. It would be better if lightly fried or a sauce. But it didn't take away from the meal. In addition service was great from begining to end. Our server Jianci gave great recommendations and was the perfect level of attentiveness. We dined outside which was a perfect setting for a cool end of summer day. I highly recommend Union Square Cafe especially for special occasions. Service: Dine in Price per person: $100+ Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
Absolutely horrid experience. I’ve been coming here for years. Food was decent as usual. They sat us next to their service door where servers entered in and out every 30 seconds. Whenever they opened the door, a cold draft hit my face. Our food got cold within a minute. Cold fries isn’t exactly appealing. I raised the issue multiple times and the staff refused to move us or address the situation in any way. They didn’t warn us or ask us if we were okay with the draft when they seated us (there were many empty tables at this point). Honestly this ruined my day.
