This is classic New York Italian at its best. I rated the atmosphere highly not for its elegance, but because it has a charming, nostalgic vibe that I really appreciate. The restaurant may not look like much from the outside, but the food and wine were outstanding. Our server was incredibly kind and actually apologized for the brief wait, even though it was only a few minutes. View all feedback.
What Alex G doesn't like about Don Filippo:
Meh. Whatever passion once existed here (if ever), is long since gone. Garlic rolls are cold and not made fresh; pasta was overcooked; red sauce was lukewarm and uninspired; and I sense microwaves are used in this joint. Everything was just fair, and a bit sad. This is about as far from Italian as one can get. If you absolutely must eat here, maybe try the pizza. Otherwise, this is a poor excuse for an Italian tratto... View all feedback.
This is a typical pizza place. The food doesn’t get heated very well unless you specifically ask the staff to do so. I tried the Sicilian slice and the spinach and cheese calzone; both were tasty, but the calzone had way too much cheese. I ended up pulling it apart and just eating the crust. The prices are reasonable, though!
The service was quick and the prices were reasonable, but the food fell short of expectations. The outdoor seating area is pleasant and enhances the dining experience.
7 bucks for 2 slices of cheese and a soda is a great deal! Pizza wasn't to die for but came out hot and definitely better than expected.
Great food. Not sure what people are talking about. Some people like to just give out bad reviews. And this is not happening here Great pizza. If you want a quick bite or a sit down meal. Hard working staff service is great good place indeed. Place is small and gets busy with fast pace ordering at the counter . Food is hot a prepared well.
Yeah the pizza's really good but we come here for the entrees. The chicken francese is just terrific as is the escarole and bean soup. A pasta (maybe orecchiette? with broccoli rabe and sausage was also excellent. Haven't made a bad choice yet. In other words, this is a simple, non descript, neighborhood place that serves great food at very reasonable prices. And the ambience is perfect ever so slightly in need of an upgrade that hopefully doesn't happen if you like that kind of thing. And the staff is very friendly.
