What daofucian001 doesn't like about Hokkaido Japanese:
Stopped in New Paltz, NY over night to take a break on a road trip. Asked used motel restaurant lust and bounced a couple places off TripAdvisor and scored. Overnighting in New Paltz, NY on way back home — Hampton Inn. Started nigiri sushi — maguro and ebi (ahi and shrimp). Seafood was fresh, sake was hot, AND the bok choy/shiitake stir fry was spot on … yup pays to check TripAdvisor… also had gyoza made there and go... View all feedback.
I absolutely adore this restaurant. It was my first time trying sushi in the Hudson Valley, and I was thrilled to return after its recent reopening. My friend and I ordered 7 of our favorite rolls, and they were excellent. The vegetarian options were also surprisingly delicious. I highly recommend this place.
We arrived slightly late for dinner, but the waiter kindly brought us menus and water while we waited outside. The interior had a lovely traditional Japanese decor. The special rolls on the menu caught my eye, so I tried the Alaskan and Futo-Maki. The miso soup was absolutely delicious. We really enjoyed the friendly staff and the warm family atmosphere of the restaurant.
This sushi restaurant is absolutely fantastic. They serve a wide range of stunning and unique dishes and sushi rolls. I enjoyed every bite. The service was friendly, attentive, and quick. Definitely worth a visit!
Came for dinner to try to find a decent sushi restaurant that's close to home, and that didn't disappoint too much. The sushi rice could certainly be seasoned a little more and was slightly overcooked. The cuts of the fish were not very consistent, and the variety was low-mid range. Instead of disappointing with the sushi plate, as it doubled pieces of the same fish, offers little variety: 2 pieces of tuna, 3 salmon, 2 yellow tail and 2 white tuna, with a tuna reel. I had expected 9 different pieces of sushi, as typical for most restaurants. My son loved the chicken caraage, almost ate the whole plate itself, it was quite delicious and certainly worth returning for him to enjoy. Overall, not near the best sushi I had but not close to the worst, and how close it is at home, I will probably come back. I finally say my 4 star review is somewhat more generous than it should be likely, but if you are looking for a decent fix for sushi, it seems to be a safe bet.
Food and service were unbelievable! Great hidden spot. Portions are pretty big, so come hungry!
