This place has wonderful hours. and they are open earlier than most caffes on Sunday! there are many places to sit, drink and eat, and read a good book! they have a dedicated vegan chai for those who do not drink coffee. I asked the kerl on the counter if they had any vegan baked and he gave me muffins right out of the many. so good.
I have here for lunch lately, even if other reviews, and in fact did the own information of the shop, specified limited vegan options. the good new is that while there are only 1 vegan dessert option (and a very good) there are many more for eating. the key is just ask. I was able to adapt a sandwich to vegan and to gluten-free vegan brot. there is a beautiful grave-and-go case in the front, the vegan items (gras-based and other salads.) the personal was friendly and helpful with my wish.
I have loved book trader for years! They are a wonderful new Haven fastening a large independent bookshop with a veg-friendly caffe. the large caffe room is from windows, how to eat in a greenhouse, and they are surrounded by books! on beautiful weather days they use one of the rare outdoor terraces of new haven and people watching on the chapel street. the menu had for ever 2 vegetarian sandwiches: fromnegut’s (roasted) veggies that could be vegan when they keep the braut; and the tempesto, a pretty beautiful tomaten mozz sandwich. they have recently got a vegan option, the firm of eden lentil-quinoa veggie burger, which I did not get to try but have high hopes. the (non-vegan) brownies are also amazingly good and as big as their palm. homemade ice cream and abi are good drinks options. super nice cozy bookstore caffe, surrounded by books on a charming part of the Cape Street. a victor!
One of my favorite places in new harbour. partly coffee shop, partly used bookshop, part (man) woollen house. there is no room I like more than one that has windows for walls, so I could be part of this building. the personal is really nice, they have hundreds and hundreds of books about everything - I love to come in and search before I work. Eating is pretty good, good choice of options and can meet their nutritional needs.
The book trader caffe is nice, cozy, and it has fed regale with so many books! there are many choices and a decent amount of inside and outside seats! the personal is polite, there are so many drinking possibilities, and everything else is what you would expect for a good caffe! this is a popular place, so that inside seats are limited at the weekends and there is in the rule a line due to popularity, so prepare themselves accordingly! Overall, if they are looking for a sweet cozy atmosphere, and a great place to have a chat or work to do, then they give this place a try!
Nestled in a charming part of Chapel Street, Trader Café seamlessly combines a cozy café atmosphere with a delightful used bookstore. Guests can relish tasty vegan options, including a standout chocolate cake that's won over even non-vegans. The café's inviting ambiance is enhanced by ample natural light and friendly staff, making it an ideal spot for conversations or remote work. Visitors appreciate the diverse menu, including adaptable vegetarian sandwiches, while the extensive book selection adds to the charm. With outdoor seating available, Trader Café is a must-visit destination for foodies and book lovers alike.

This is my favorite coffee shop in New Haven, or anywhere for that matter. The atmosphere is fantastic and you can always find a great book or CD/DVD. The staff is always extremely friendly and welcoming. My favorite thing at The Book Trader, however, is the scones. You can smell them baking when you walk in, and they are big and delicious. I prefer to go to The Book Trader over the big chain coffee shops. The staff is much friendlier and you feel like more than just a customer.
I took my grandchildren from Florida to this restaurant and was delighted to learn that children receive a free book on their first visit. My grandchildren had a wonderful time choosing and getting their free book. As avid supporters of children's literacy, we couldn't wait to bring their new books home so they could start reading.
Trader Café is a stunning and comfortable restaurant with an abundance of books on its shelves. They offer a wide variety of seating options both indoors and outdoors. The staff is friendly, and there are plenty of drink choices available. The café provides a typical café experience. It is a popular spot, especially on weekends, so be prepared for limited indoor seating and potential lines. If you are seeking a charming and cozy ambiance to enjoy a conversation or get some work done, Trader Café is worth a visit.
Very nice café and used bookshop! The staff was very pleasant. I felt very welcome. I ordered a vegan chai and it was pretty good; it had the perfect amount of sweetness. A little criticism is that my table had crumbs, but I probably came to a strange time and it was a simple fixation. The Wifi actually works. Make sure you select the right network and read the characters carefully. Who reads in a bookstore? Bad joke. The book selection is small, but the bookshelves are really organized and the sections are clearly marked. It was a nice time. Will visit this place soon!
I ordered the Fear and Loathing in Lox Vegas, a bagel with lox and capers, and settled down to find a new read. Large tables, a patio, and wraparound window seating provide a variety of options for people to read, plug in a computer, or visit with friends. It is a peaceful place to eat and read, as the dining room is in the center of a set of high bookshelves, which offer a smattering of used books across categories. When I ventured into the stacks, I found that each section was clearly labeled, and their fiction section was much larger than I expected from the store?s small size. I was only in town for the day, but I would recommend this bookstore to anyone looking for a book to read on the train and a bite to eat.

Great atmosphere and service and vegan options! P.S.: Thank you for playing Fiona Apple songs.
Friendly and with delicious coffee (I love their lattes), house-made muffins and other great eats. Plus an excellent selection of used books. Exploring is always fun at Book Trader.
The atmosphere is fantastic, the food is fantastic, the coffee is good, and the staff are friendly. What more could you want?
I absolutely adore the atmosphere of this restaurant. The scent of old books lingers in the air, adding to the cozy vibe. The soups and sandwiches are delicious, and I enjoyed pretty much everything I tried. The service was excellent, and the outdoor patio is perfect for enjoying in the warmer months. They have a wide selection of books at very reasonable prices as well. Overall, a fantastic experience!
I really enjoyed the selection of books, the ambiance, and the pastries at this restaurant! I will definitely be returning in the future.

I specifically come to this restaurant just for their amazing dishes. Updated from my previous review on April 18, 2023.
I love this restaurant's great opening hours, especially on Sundays when they open earlier than most coffee shops. It's a cozy spot with plenty of seating to enjoy a drink, snack, and read a good book. They even have a special vegan chai for non-coffee drinkers. When I asked about vegan baked goods, the kind gentleman behind the counter gave me freshly baked muffins that were absolutely delicious.
I recently visited this restaurant for lunch, despite hearing that there were only limited vegan options available according to other reviews and the shop's information. Thankfully, I discovered that there are actually more vegan food options available if you just ask. I was able to customize a vegan sandwich on gluten-free bread, and there is also a great vegan dessert option. The front grab-and-go case offers vegan items such as salads. The staff were friendly and accommodating to my dietary requests.
They’ve got only one vegan option which is pretty good but I’ve had better burgers. There’s also a few vegetarian sandwiches you can veganise by getting them without cheese. The vegan chocolate cake however was amazing. Super creamy and rich. Even the non-vegans enjoyed it. Updated from previous review on 2018-08-31
