This restaurant is fantastic. The staff is friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting. The food was incredible - my wife and I agreed it was the best meal we've ever had. The breakfast the next morning was also amazing. Well done George and Sylwia, you have an excellent team! View all feedback.
What 2ulverscroft doesn't like about The Ship Inn:
We were staying at Sandy Balls and had a taxi down. We spent a great afternoon in there. The cask ales were great. The fire was very welcoming and the staff great. We ended up being stuck there as our taxi (Express taxis. Not. Don't use them) let us down. 2 hours later they turned up. The landlord was concerned and offered to take us back to Sandy Balls himself. What a great offer. Fortunately our taxi then arrived.... View all feedback.
First off, we interacted with four different staff during our dinner, bed and breakfast and all were exceptional. All were really keen to deliver the best experience. The food (dinner and breakfast) was tasty, hot and fresh which is all you really want. The bedroom was basic and perhaps a bit tired, but extremely clean. As a travelling cyclist, nothing is more important than an extremely safe place to leave your bike not only is it an extremely expensive thing, but it’s also your pride and joy and your only means of your onward travel and this place is better than any other as we stored them in the bar overnight!
We visited 'The Ship Inn ' for a lunch . The staff were very friendly . We have a very large dog , who takes up a lot of floor space , but they were happy to accommodate her . The food we ordered was excellent , thoroughly enjoyed by my partner and myself .
After visiting the nearby Aqua Park, we stopped at The Ship Inn for some dinner. Great service and atmosphere, food was lovely and reasonably priced. Will definitely visit when I am next in area!
Been here many times over the last 18 years. Under the current management it seems to have a new lease of life. Friendly staff, good value food and made to feel welcome.
This is a review of the accommodation, not the restaurant. We booked for the night of 26th December. On arrival at about 6.30pm, we were told that that the pub had closed early, and that there was now a private party going on. At about 10pm I went down to say that we could hear music coming upstairs, and the noise of what seemed like furniture being moved about (it turned out to be chairs scraping on the floor, the sound of which carried through the whole building). The landlady seemed to take note of what I said, but at midnight I had to go down again to ask them to be quieter, but she said that as it was a private party they basically could do as they pleased. I did say that in that case they should not have taken any bookings for that night. She wasn't apologetic in any way, and the noise continued on and off until well past 1am. Then we were disturbed again later by the owners going to bed on the floor above. We had a very poor night's sleep owing to all the disturbances. In the morning the landlady was nowhere to be seen, but we had breakfast, which was very good, and left without staying the second planned night, as we reasoned that the pub would be open again the next night, and with the sound insulation in this old building so poor, we would not get a good night's sleep. We left with no apology from the pub staff. So for anyone planning to stay there, either you should not mind being kept up late, or you should take ear plugs! Also, at 80 pounds per night B&B for two people, it would be cheaper to stay in a Premier Inn, and a lot quieter!
