Mai Bao - New Delhi

The numerous great dining options present at the DLF Commons can get intimidating at times because of the choices one is presented with. I chose to write about Mai Bao because I had one of the more memorable recent dining experiences there with my parents. Went there on a weekday when the foot traffic was lighter and liked the nice matte?!? coloured interiors and cozy seating. The menu was fairly simple to navigate. They apparently specialise in Asian street food (Singaporean to be more specific) and that caught my eye. Hence I ordered the Hainanese Chicken Rice which was really well done. They managed to get the texture of the rice and the chicken on point along with the red sauce. The dark sauce which is usually present in Singapore was not present here and instead which we were given soya sauce which is my only gripe. The crispy Duck Bao was excellent as well which I shared with my parents. I cannot tell much about the Nasi Goreng and the Steamed Fish which my parents ordered since I only tasted a few spoons but from what I could gather, they enjoyed their meals and my parents are very hard to please. The chef was based in Singapore for some time from what I could gather during our brief conversation. The service was also excellent and the wait staff is keen and attentive. Highly recommended.

We went to DLF Avenue and saw this little cafe which had nice and cool atmosphere and ambience. We tried 3 things. Chicken and chilli oil wontons, chicken satay and Ayem goreng. Wontons were nicely cooked and very tasty. Chicken was cooked thoroughly. It had 4 pieces. Chicken satay had 4 skewers as well. Chicken cooked perfectly again and it was topped with peanuts and peanut sauce just like we get in the streets of singapore. Ayem goreng is a malaysian style fried chicken. It had 5 pieces. We felt it had a little bit of more batter than the actual chicken but overall it tastes yum. We ordered coke to go with all of this. The dishes and flavors were rather new so would recommend if you're okay with experimenting with new flavors. Quality and taste was good. We were really confused about what to order so we told the waiter to surprise us and he didn't disappoint so would give 10/10 for the service.

A quick mid-week date night at @maibaodelhi for Ramen! They were out of Ramen, tough luck! Anyways, the Nasi Goreng, yam puffs, prawn satay, and mixed seafood soup were a delight. If i have to nitpick, the yam puffs had fishy taste to them. A must visit if you are looking for a quiet date.

While I didn't order the Hainanese chicken during this visit, I have previously enjoyed it several times through food delivery services. The chicken has consistently been tender and juicy, with fragrant and well-seasoned rice. This classic dish is definitely a must-try for fans of traditional Asian cuisine. The chili crab, on the other hand, was a bit of a mixed bag. While the crab itself was cooked well, the dish was quite dry, which detracted from the overall enjoyment. Additionally, the chili crab's spiciness may not be suitable for everyone, so keep that in mind when ordering. An interesting and unexpected addition to the menu was the rice cooked in coconut milk. This dish offered a unique twist on traditional rice, with the coconut milk adding a hint of sweetness and creaminess. While this dish might not be everyone's cup of tea, it's worth a try for those looking for something different. In conclusion, Mai Bao offers a mix of standout dishes like the salted egg shrimp and Hainanese chicken, alongside more experimental options like the chili crab and coconut milk rice.
