What Sofie Van Den A doesn't like about Brown Bread Bakery New Delhi:
Nothing from the menu was available. Only bread with hummus, butter or honey. Bread was very dry. We came here because we went in brown bakery in Varanasi, which was very good. View all feedback.
I started my India tour from Delhi, and the guest house above the Brown Bread Bakery there was my first place of stay there and I became acquainted with the bakery during my stay here first. The manager of Ajay guest house was very helpful and highly recommended the bakery's guest house in Varanasi for when I got there, after my trip to Agra. The food at the bakery was good and the kitchen open which is always reassuring for me eating out in a place like India, so I can get a sense of how clean the kitchen where my food is cooked. The cooking area appeared to be mostly clean with things and food preparation area fairly spaced and staff looked relaxed and attentive. The cheese and cereals in my breakfast buffet were delicious! It was great to know that the cheese was all organic and the cereals mostly vegan, that the bakery made their own vegan food and breads in Varanasi and all the profits went to a school run by the bakery owners. It was only natural for me to be intrigued and pleased to know about such a place and so I advance booked my stay in Varanasi with a little help from the manager of the Delhi guest house. In retrospect I actually feel lucky for doing so. So, many thanks to both the manager of Ajay guest house and the lovely staff of the adjoining Brown Bread Bakery that not only served me two lovely first meals upon my arrival in India but also showed me the way to a great bakery run guest house in Varanasi. I felt great warmth and support from everyone in all of these places and good food is always helpful. Thankyou again.
I 'll get this out of the way first- please do try their German bread. It 's not as hard as authentic German bread is, but that 's a good thing according to me. The place is not easy to locate amongst all the tiny shops and cafes and restaurants on the noisy old Delhi street, but you should find it comfortably enough using Google maps. The place sells what seems like a random range of things. All around the eating area, which itself looks quite random, are stalls and hole-in-the-wall stores selling leather products, handmade crafts and fresh bread, pie and cookies. I personally liked how weird and not put together the ambience was. Ordered a classic English breakfast and it was as authentic as it gets. Also had some sauteed mushrooms on the side. Their cold coffee is nothing to speak of and the watermelon juice was as it should be, nothing mind-blowing. I also (quite stupidly) ordered what they called their special local cheese , which was (obviously) just cottage cheese (paneer). Do go!
The brown bread bakery is located in the Ajay guest house in main bazar road, Paharganj, New Delhi They are serving very good food: indian european. The profit supports the learn for life project in Varanasi. Especially the breakfast with fresh bread was recommendable and I would recommend everyone to visit this restaurant!
Well, because it has been the same for the past 10 years and have a deep connect with it. Noone really cares whether you are there or not. Gives you a nice, relaxing feeling while you dig in to classic cheese sandwiches and pancakes.
