The kimchi and rice is excellent! It comes sizzling in a hot stone pot and the flavors are perfect. Really hit the spot! First good sign was there were actually korean ppl dining and speaking korean and the server was really nice. So happy to finally find an authentic korean restaurant in the south island! What User doesn't like about Maru Korean Japanese:
This is a slightly strange place but very clean tidy and friendly. Seems to be a fusion of Japanese and Korean cuisine. The octopus takoyaki balls were amazingly good. We prefer Osaka style okonomyaki and our way is with cheese and shrimps which were not an option. Miso soup was unusual but lovely. I ordered ramen and gammari, and I was pleasantly surprised by how filling it was. Overall, it was very nice! I hope they can bring back the rabokki soon!
We had an incredibly positive dining experience and truly enjoyed everything we ordered. We will definitely return the next time we're in Nelson.
They have been around for years, with wonderful owners, a great variety of options for vegans, consistently delicious food, and excellent prices.

Beautiful and super quiet restaurant, lovely japanese staff are super kind to us, one ofy favorite stores, food is wonderful too!
