Pub 981 - Neguac

This place came well recommended by many friends. It's about a hour drive for us but well worth it. I had the fish tacos and my husband had the hot hamburger sandwich, both rated as excellent. We bought delicious sweets upon leaving and the carmel...muffin was the best muffin I ever ate. The waitress had personality plus and the prices reasonable. It is a sit down restaurant with a coffee shop in front and a drive through. Can't wait to go back.

Me and my wife were out for a nice Sunday drive and notice this place, it looked very decent at first glance, although the first appearances are of the Caffe shop in the front, the actual door to the restaurant is more on the side...of the building towards the back. Not very apparent. The decor seemed ok, a little on the darker side as far as lighting goes, but we thought this would make it more intimate and we were mostly there for the food, as we expected, by the appearances, that the food would be very good. The menu is similar to a regular Diner, nothing to fancy at all. The service was very decent and for appetizers, we ordered the onion rings. Well it came quasi fancy but oh boy, you really got to try those rings and dipping sauce, they are absolutely Fantastic. Seriously, they really are, and they came with what seems like a roasted red pepper dipping sauce. Totally superb. I could of made those a total meal, by itself. BUT, that’s where it stopped. I ordered a hot Hamburg with side of poutine of kitchen cut fries. It was ok, just ok, the hamburger was well cooked but on the small side. Had far more bread then meat. I ordered the poutine with real cheese curds, well I think they scraped the bottom of the container and scooped up only the crumbs. Was JUST OK, but very underwhelming. My wife ordered the Fish Chips, and I think that was the worse disaster. The batter had no crisp to it, and the fish inside was cold and almost raw in the center. She felt sick to her stomach for the rest of the evening. She had also ordered the kitchen cut fries, which is suppose to be one of her signature items, but wow, they were soggy and had no crispyness to them at all. It was a very disappointing meal. We paid and left a tip cause the service was decent, but we won’t be returning any time soon. We’ll go back to Chez Raymond, not far from here, the decor is regular, but the food and service is very good. If PUB 981 keeps serving this type of underwhelming food, even on a bad day, they won’t be around for very long. Unfortunately the decor far surpassed the food. Truly disappointing.

Finally got a chance to eat at this restaurant while on vacation. I decided to go with the fish tacos, you get two fish tacos, fries and coleslaw. Everything was very good. I want to mention the fish tacos are huge, two people could share...this meal. I was starving and actually ate it all but I was definitely stuffed and had no room for anything else! The service was great, our server was very nice and service was also fast even though the pub was pretty full when we got there. The pub isn’t big but it’s very nice and clean. It’s a nice spot!

Had the Swiss cheese mushroom hamburgers and wedges. Amazing! Highly recommend the restaurant . Food, service and atmosphere are excellent!

We wanted to go to brunch and decided to try Pub 981. The staff gave excellent service and was very friendly. The food was excellent with good portions. It was worth the journey of Miramichi and we will go definately again.
