This is Greens Restaurant at the Castle Hotel in Neath, South Wales. I'd eaten there many times in the past but had been neither amazed nor apalled nor driven to write a review. However I found myself back there recently and the menu has shrunk in size but has blossomed with choice. This is good local pub/restaurant cooking. Definitely a step up from where they used to be. Most certainly worth checking out. View all feedback.
What Eddie020173 doesn't like about Greens:
Whilst on a short visit to neath i stoped at this restaurant for lunch i found the restaurant welcoming and the staff great and the food good it was a shame i was only here for 1 hour but i would have liked to stay longer if I was in neath again this restaurant would be visited again View all feedback.
Treated to afternoon tea for my birthday on sat 2/7/16 with my daughters and granddaughter . What a disappointment ! Poorly presented ,sandwiches were dry ! Conclusion being they had been made a while , Cakes were cut in half and Shop Bought !! Would not recommend afternoon tea there
Great food, reasonable priced but looks ala carte. Very relaxing with really 1st class service from the staff.
We have been going to this Hotel since around 2004 three or four times a year on a Friday evening for a 'pub dinner '. Excellent value and well presented. 20 5 16 was very disappointed. Bar man gave me a well priced lunch menu (at 5.30pm) and the menu for the evening. The Manager said not the lunch menu (training need for bar man). My meal was fine but my wife had to take her plate of food to the Manager who was in a quiet part of the main restaurant, not to make any fuss in the busy main bar area. Most of the scampi were raw beneath the bread crumbed cold and nasty, not having been heated properly in the cooking. Such a simple error it is very hard indeed to imagine anyone with any basic skill could make such an error. It is very doubtful if any of the locals in the bar noticed. The Manager asked my wife if she would like a dessert, my wife said no she rarely eats desserts. Nothing else was offered. My wife went outside for a cigarette, and while she was away, the Manager came and placed a £5 note by my plate. We go out for a meal 2 3 times a week, and have never had a fundamental problem such as raw food. In fact over many decades, this is the first time we have been served uncooked scampi this was only just thawed, stone cold and watery, horrible. The Manager obviously did a calculation, eaten some, for a meal costing just under £8.00, give £5 back. The Manager needs a training course on customer relations. An obvious failing in the product must result in full refund. If an apology had been forthcoming with a full refund, this part of the review would not have been scripted. What happened to my wife on the way out of the busy public bar would have made a review on its own. She needed the loo, and in the lady 's of the 4 cubicles, only 1 had a toilet roll, and the front of that loo pedestal was heavily stained. She had been very annoyed at the return of just £5, and since no one was at reception when she left the loo to go back to our car, she left it for someone else to complain. It is generally accepted that it can be accurate to judge the cleanliness of a restaurant by the state of the toilets. Well, on this occasion ... leave the reader to ponder. Reason for confusion of menus, new menu being developed in next 2 weeks. Single A4 piece of paper not the right image to a 3+ Hotel. When a meal goes wrong apologise offer an alternative not straight to dessert and refund the cost of the meal meal paid for upfront. Public toilets imperative these are checked every hour at least, possibly more frequently at busy times.
Some choices were really quite good and well presented: others not so, and the stroganoff was tasteless: bit hit and miss which is a shame
Had a meal in here tonight. I've lived in Neath all my life and never eaten here before. I cook for nine people Christmas Day so my husband treated to a meal I didn't have to cook. We booked the three course festive menu. When we arrived we were shown to a very plain looking table, no crackers or decorations. The starter was good, pigs in blanket with a dip. The turkey dinner was the quality of bad school dinners. It was already plated on a small square plate. The peas were disgusting. The gravy was thin like water. Really really disappointed. Only two small slices of Turkey. Dessert was good but not normally find of sweets just did as it was a set menu. Staff were friendly and kind but came away feeling I didn't have my special Christmas meal. £51 for that and I only had a coke and my husband a lemonade and lime
