In my first night in Nashville I visited Gertie's bar for cocktails. Brandon went beyond and beyond, made handmade delicious cocktails, shared city attractions to visit, and encapsulated southern hospitality. The drinks were phenomenal. This is a must on your Nashville Tour. View all feedback.
I really wanted to love this place, but the only reason I am giving it three stars is because the bartender was awesome and the cocktails were good. Nothing worse than sitting at a bar sweating because the AC is not on and the owners/operators think it 's a good idea to not have a single ceiling fan or any type of airflow. Not too smart when you are in a city than consistently has days 90° and above for months at a time! When I asked the bartenders if it was always this hot and stuffy and they said it gets worse than this ... That 's a sign that something needs to be done. What 's even worse than that is there are no restrooms in the bar area. You have to walk upstairs to the dining room area and then weave your way through the seating area, dodging waitresses and servers, bumping into customers as they try to enjoy their meal, just to get to the restroom. Who thought this was a good idea?? Felt so awkward! They do have an extensive whiskey bourbon and Scotch list, which is nice...but they also think they can overcharge for just about everything, and thats even compared to other establishments in the same area, so you can 't use being in The Gulch or Nashville Prices as the excuse. It 's blatant they are using their prices to create an illusion of high class. Like I said, I would love to love this place but sadly it fell way short of being somewhere I would even come back to. There are much better whiskey bars in the area that are not as expensive, and way more comfortable.
We visited on a Sunday for drinks and dinner with my wife. Ryan was the bartender that night, and he truly impressed us. He gave us great recommendations for cocktails and dishes, and he absolutely nailed every one of them. We left feeling happy and satisfied. This was our first trip to Nashville, and it ended on a high note. We can't wait for our next visit and to see Ryan work his magic again!
Came in on a packed Thursday night. For the several hours we were there, bartender Ryan never stopped moving for a second. He handled the entire bar solo and still managed to find time to make bourbon recommendations. It was a sight to behold. Great whiskey selection at reasonable prices, solid cocktails, and delicious pimento cheese. 5 stars.
The atmosphere was fantastic, the drinks were delicious, and Ryan, the bartender, offered exceptional hospitality. His recommendations were spot-on each time!
Wow! This place is a paradise for bourbon and whiskey enthusiasts. Brandon, the head bartender (and possibly the owner?), is fantastic. He crafted a custom old fashioned for me using Old Grandad 114 and a grapefruit element, and it turned out to be the best old fashioned I've ever had. However, I found the cornbread to be quite bitter, and even the sweet butter couldn’t improve it for me. I suppose I should try some of their other dishes. But the bourbon selection? Incredible!
