My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful meal at La Locanda del Viaggiatore. The food was simple but delicious, using fresh local ingredients to wonderful effect. The antipasti selection was fantastic, which my wife followed with tagliata and I followed with spaghetti and swordfish. Both were lovely. We rounded off with fruit desserts and limoncello. We were on our way back to the Hotel Decumani after an evening stroll along the waterfront and looking for somewhere nearby to eat, when La Locanda came into view. At first glance it did not look too inviting but hey ho when in Naples.....and boy were we glad we plumped for this place. The food was freshly cooked and worth waiting for, an appetizer of bread and olives, a shared platter of tempura vegetables, meat and fish and main courses of mussles linguini and fresh seared tuna. The house red wine was excellent and we were treated to limicello on the house at the end of the meal. The owner took the time to tell us about the history of the restaurant and the Piazzetta it stands on and was a kind and gentle host. When the bill came it was a nice surprise , as this was one of the best value meals we had during our 11 day journey through Italy. Would highly recommend this restaurant.

Stopped here only for a pre dinner drink. The owner brought out the drinks and the usual crisps one always gets in Europe as part of the deal, and we sipped away. 10 minutes later he came out with a complimentary plate of mini dough balls, freshly cooked, with savoury centres, and said 'better than crisps for you! '. We hadnt intended to eat here, but they were delicious, and he was so nice, we did, and it was the best meal we had in Naples. Charming guy, genuinely friendly and wanting to please with both food and service. The food was all fresh, simple and really delicious. When the bill came , he had missed off the digestivi we had ordered, which I pointed out. Yes, you guessed it, on the house. Couldnt have been a better meal, he deserves your business!
We went to this restaurant after reading all the good reviews about it, and we want to add our own. The quality of the food and the warm welcome by the host made this a memorable meal. All of the fresh fish and seafood in our starter was delicious, especially the octopus, as was our main course of sea bream and bacala. A real fish treat, so much so that we were too pleasantly full to order desert. Instead, we enjoyed limoncello and a liquorice liquor and a conversation about the area and Naples more generally with the host. We would highly recommend this gem of a restaurant.
The place is located in the heart of Naples. The food was excellent. The atmosphere was friendly and with the special touch of Naples. We had dinner on the first night of the trip, and came back, to have a dinner on the last night of the trip. It was the best dining and cultural experience on this 2 week vacation in Naples and Amalfi Coast. If you in the mood for excellent food and the touch of Naples culture, ready to speak with staff and learn about Italy and Naples, visit this restaurant.
