Our first visit here, we arrived at 6:15 and promptly ordered a glass of wine and a martini, they gave us double of each! Total price? 8 bucks, we were thrilled. The place was full of pleasant, happy older people who were having a great time; dress was casual to office dress with everything in between. Very comfortable atmosphere and very good food for moderate prices. View all feedback.
What Gene Watts doesn't like about The Pewter Mug:
We hadn't eaten here in probably 2 years. When we looked at the prices on the menu we were shocked to say the least. The prices on everything have doubled since we were there last time. I had baked shrimp with crab stuffing. I got 3 small shrimp and a baked potato for 23.95. After bringing our food we never saw the server until she brought us the bill. We first dined at The Pewter Mug a few years ago while visiting relatives, and enjoyed every aspect of the experience. Great food, especially for the steak lover!! We've returned to Naples several times, and never fail to visit this fine restaurant. We've gone so far as to take a quick weekend trip with dinner at The Pewter Mug with family as the primary reason for the trip.
We've been to Pewter Mug many times and always enjoy it. Their salad bar is wonderful and the food is good. My husband always gets the prime rib and is always pleased with it, though it could have a little more flavor. I usually get the teriyaki chicken which is also quite good. We will continue to patronize Pewter Mug.
I just wanted to warn your loyal readers about a local restaurant that has really gone down hill. Tonight my family went to the Pewter Mug for the third time this month. We often entertain family and friends there. Imagine our surprise when my husband 's and my steaks came out **** (when we had ordered well done). We asked our server to send them back. We also asked to speak with the manager. He took the plates away and proceeded to come back shortly, not with our steaks, but my lobster tail and my husband 's shrimp and our potatoes. I have NEVER had a restaurant bring back our plates usually that keep them under the warmer so the other portion of your dinner does not get cold. NOT tonight. The manager stated that he would freshen our food, said he was sorry and vowed to see what the problem was. While my three small children were almost finished with their dinners, he brought back our steaks. By this time our other food had gotten cold. To make it worse, my husband’s steak was still ****. Neither the waiter, nor the manager came back to check on us. Another server stopped by and apologized and asked what the issue was. My husband explained our fiasco and he asked us to give them another chance. Half of my husband 's steak remained **** on his plate, almost all of my steak and lobster remained on my plate. Most people know that it never tastes the same when you ask for a steak to finish cooking and who wants to eat a cold, rubbery lobster? What happened next still shocks me. After paying for our bill, my husband spoke to the manager again and told him we were very upset about our meal. The manager said he had spoken to our waiter and that there was no problem with the rest of our meal. When my husband pointed out that no one bothered to check on us, including the manager he was speaking to, the manager told my husband to stop telling him how to do his job. My husband asked when the owner would be in and the manager told him that the owner 's name was DAD and that he did not know when he would be in again. The manager proceeded to tell my husband that he was on private property and to get out before he called the authorities. This created a huge scene that upset my children incredibly. In addition, because I paid with my credit card, I have notified the bank of our experience for fear the manager will try to do something stupid with my account information. I am sharing this with you in hopes that you can save someone else from the awful waterfront dining experience of one of Naples oldest restaurants.
