What Dru Burger dislikes about Hunger Monger Seafood:
Went for dinner. The sushimi was mind blowing..! The sauces were fantastic and one of the best wasabi I think I’ve ever tried! Hot peppery and straight to the sinuses!!! The blue swimmer crab Arancini was so beautiful but sadly the squid was cold. The potatoes seemed old and weathered so we left them. Although these seem a little negative, the staff were kind and polite. I’ll be back for another go, hopefully it will... View all feedback.

A great experience at Kai-Moana! The seafood is very fresh and flavorful. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves good seafood and delightful culinary adventures!

Fantastic hospitality! Thank you, Agnieszka. The entire family was amazing. The kaimoana (seafood) throughout the menu was delicious, perfectly seasoned and prepared. We started with gently roasted squid and an incredible prawn taco, followed by the main courses which included classic gurnard and chips, a Mexi-fusion southern fried fish burger, and a superb bouillabaisse. The wine selection was excellent, and we enjoyed some perfect Wellington beers to top off our experience. We'll definitely be back!

The food was outstanding! I especially loved the dal fritters and the tomato curry with grilled fish!

We loved the fish and chips because they were not oily at all and almost looked like it was grilled. Raw fish in coconut cream was spoon licking delicious and snowpeas and zucchini salad was tasty. This business has a beautiful future ahead. Thank you once again to the Polish lady who served us tonight.

Absolutely amazing food and atmosphere. Must try for seafood lovers. Will definitely be back.

We had an amazing dining experience here! Since we had substantial meals for breakfast and lunch elsewhere, we opted for a lighter dinner at Hunger Monger, but the flavors were so rich and satisfying that just a few small bites left us feeling wonderfully full. This restaurant truly cares about creating unique and luxurious flavors. The menu features plenty of gluten-free, vegan, and dairy-free options, yet it still managed to delight us—two enthusiastic omnivores with no dietary restrictions. The seafood was exceptionally fresh and expertly prepared. In addition to the delectable melting halloumi cheese pops, the citrus-marinated fish with coconut cream, and the Pacific rock oysters (all featured in the attached photos), we also ordered the Wangamata scallops on skewers. Each dish was small in size but packed with incredible flavor. I also enjoyed the Schubert Sauvignon Blanc and the non-alcoholic ginger beer from Hawkes Bay Brewery.

The seafood is incredibly fresh, and the personal service is exceptional. Anishka and her husband, the chef, go out of their way to make you feel right at home. The restaurant is popular with locals, adding to its charm.

We visited this fantastic spot right by the water in Napier before the cyclone hit the area in February 2023. The outdoor seating area is lovely, complete with comfy sheepskin seat covers—truly a slice of heaven! Although we didn't have a reservation, they graciously accommodated our larger group, and the service was incredibly friendly. The fish was incredibly fresh! I hope to return in the future!

We came here for dinner last night. Since we weren't terribly hungry due to our lunch earlier, we ordered smaller plates or split an entree. Between the boy and I, we split the small sashimi (good value for the dish, wasn't consistently sliced but good) and the seafood stew (large pieces of seafood like clams, citrus butter with bread was nice/interesting) and bowl of ice cream (feijoa and pear was unique but it has some aftertaste that didn't sit well). Overall, the meal was okay. What bothered us was how slow everything was. It ended up being a 2.5 hour meal for 6 people of 5 small plates, 3 entrees, and 3 desserts. There are 13 tables with what appears to be 3 servers.

Hunger Monger Seafood Restaurant is an attractive place filled place with an open kitchen. Service is friendly and good. The only complaint is that they salted the fish much too much greatly detracting from their taste. Reservations are suggested as they do fill up. Their seafood offerings are of course fresh.

I had a fantastic dinner experience at this restaurant. The food, service, and atmosphere were all consistently excellent. I would estimate my meal cost between NZ$60 to NZ$70 per person. I give the food, service, and ambiance a perfect 5 out of 5. I highly recommend trying the seafood dishes!

I had an incredible evening that engaged all my senses. The menu had a playful charm, and the variety of seafood options was impressive. The commitment to customer service was outstanding, with personal and elegant attention throughout the meal. Watching the skillful food preparation was a captivating experience, and the flavors were absolutely delightful. The wine selection was intriguing, and the overall ambiance contributed to a truly memorable night out.

This is my favorite seafood restaurant in Hawke's bay. I have been here for 3 times. but... On the 1st July 2023, we were a big group of 10 ppl to have gathering farewell for our workmate. Food was awesome as always. We all got excellent services from a lovely waitress, but there was another creepy waitress wearing a striped T-shirt and she was off the shift about at 8pm. She was soooooooo rude to all of us! Big racism in 2023 in her attitude! We all noticed that, she was ok with other White customers, but not our table which were Asians. One of my friends asked her to have the menu list. She was just put on the table and asked my friend to take a pic of the menu with impolite services, she said she had to bring that menu to other tables. Then, I asked her to have an extra of wasabi. She did't say anything in response! and just put it on my plate! Woahhhhh! Such a creepy service so far in my life! At the end of the day, we all ended up not to complain about her service at restaurant. It was just because we didn't ruin the good vibes on the table, but I think I should have said at least to keep this restaurant to be as my favorite not only food quality but also services. Hopefully, the manager would do something to that creepy waitress. Thank you.

We spent two nights in Napier, and after our experience on the first night, we couldn't resist returning for a second visit. It was a pleasure to enjoy a menu that focuses specifically on fish and seafood, and nothing disappointed at Hunger Monger. While we didn't try everything on the menu, we thoroughly enjoyed the oysters, scallops, octopus, sashimi, grilled fish, mussels, and prawns, all of which were excellent. We also shared a lovely dessert. We highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a seafood spot with creative dishes.

I expected to go to this unassuming little restaurant for an early dinner of fish and chips, but I was pleasantly surprised. We ended up enjoying the best fish meal I’ve had! The fresh fish was beautifully prepared and paired with delicious accompaniments. The service, the meal, and the presentation were all top-notch. My only regret is that we're leaving Napier tomorrow.

Went for a work team dinner on Thursday night, had booked for 6 and had to ring about an hour before our booking to see if 2 children could be added to our table. They were so hospitable to my children it was so awesome. The food was amazing! Those crayfish dumplings were delicious. The kids loved their fish and chips and then ice cream and my team all raved about their meals. We will most definitely be back. The fresh seafood and top service got a 5 rating from me :

Absolutely the best GF meal I had during the five weeks spent in the north island! Enjoyed crispy squid, grilled fish of the day, side salad and apple fritters. The friendly service was excellent with plenty of time to enjoy each course. When in Napier, eat here!

Fantastic food, service and atmosphere! Went twice in a row when visiting Napier on business and loved both times. The staff were really friendly and majority of the menu was Gf already so when mentioning coeliac it was no problem. Loved the fish and chips and grilled fish one night and the second night the shared plates was so yummy!! We tried squid rings, cervice, and a few other dishes as well as affogato for dessert. Can’t recommend highly enough!

Most of the menu was gluten free and with a great variety. They are a sea food restaurant with other things such as dumplings, Korean fries. All their batters and crumbs for the fish are gluten free along with the fries. We ordered from the take away menu, fish, chips and Korean fries. The food is freshly cooked while you wait and was really delicious. Best fish we've had. The dine in menu looked really good as well.

One of the best restaurants in Napier for coeliacs. Huge assortment of gf fresh and fried goodies. Clearly very safe and knowledgeable.

Fantastic food! Almost everything on the menu is gluten-free. Just keep in mind that the portions are on the smaller side, and it's not the most budget-friendly spot, but the quality of the food makes it worth it!

Fantastic dining experience! Almost all items on the menu are gluten-free. Just a heads up, the portion sizes for sharing are on the smaller side. While it may not be the most budget-friendly option, the quality of the food definitely makes it worthwhile!
