Tai Shogun - Nantes

Came for lunch here when visiting family near Nantes. They love Japanese food, so were keen to show us one of their favourite restaurants. Certainly a different experience - a pity it was pouring! - but the welcome, the service, the choice was amazing and I didn't think I'd like raw fish at all - but it was so fresh and tasty. Will want to go again!

We ate at the back of the restaurant, the front being the sushi section, which seems to be really great. We were in the beef section, and we were impressed by the size and comfort of the room. The chef was cooking in front of us, and chatting with us, we were sitting around him. It was so great watching that guy work, the smells, the colors, it was magic. I have to admit I didn't enjoy eating as much as I enjoyed watching and smelling the creation of the food...was I expecting too much of it? I didn't find the beef that special (not tender at all! I 'd rather have Angus at the pickles!), but I might be a bit fussy here. If you want a Japanese experience in Nantes with someone special for you, do go there. Don't expect too much as far as your palate is concerned, though.
