First we sat outside, drank our Kir there, but then it began to rain, so we moved inside. The friendly head waiter took care of everything. At the end of the evening I asked him about the unusual name of the place and then he told me that previously there had been a restaurant here, called 'Le Temeraire ' (after Duke Charles le Temeraire, the Bold), but known by the people just as 'Le Tem '. The waiter also said that, when leaving, we should a look at the plaque on the house opposite, where the body of the duke had been laid out, after his defeat at the battle of Nancy. The restaurant has an attractive interior with a mixture of old (wooden ceiling with beams, stone walls) and modern. In fact there are three connecting small rooms behind each other. The furthest back, where we sat, had parquet flooring and marble top tables. There were menus offered for 25 Euros. The dishes come nicely decorated in very big plates. My wife had a 'Tempura d 'Aubergine ' as a starter, which completely lacked salt. I went for the Gravlax, which was floating in far too much soy sauce and the accompanying cucumber and fennel salad was so salty, that I could hardly eat it. When I said this to the waitress she did not react. As a main course my wife 's choice was the 'Filet Mignon de Porc ', which came with very rubbery gnocchi. I had the 'Filet de Merlu ' (European Hake) on top of a Fennel Mousse (good). I was surprised that a not very big piece of fillet had so many bones in it. The food was definitely disappointing, luckily there was a beautiful display of desserts, also with fruits like an excellent pineapple salad with basil and citronelle. One points out what one likes and then gets served. To drink we had bottle of local wine, a white 'Côtes de Toul Auxerrois '. First the headwaiter had obviously forgotten about it and I had to remind him, then a waitress came and started to open the wrong bottle. At the end all was fine and the right wine was put into an ice bucket.
