we were sad to see shoebecks corner of the marienplatz four years ago when we both met orlando and alfons and enjoyed both tremendously, but sudtiroler remains so that we can see it on our short. had to do two overnight stays. that seemed quite authentic alpen kitchen. sudtiroler has seats in free and much space inside. I didn't really appreciate it as we enjoyed four years ago alfons, but it was still very good. View all feedback.
Went to this fine restaurant with excellent service and outstanding food, a super atmosphere,a vast selection of fine wines
I travel often to Munich. I am in this restaurant fairly disappointed and I realize I wrote a review about this same place 2 years ago. And to my great surprise, my opinion has not changed. But I think it has gotten worse. Food is...poorly seasoned, too much salt in some dishes like the deer jus or the truffle linguine actually they’re serve spaghetti not linguine). Other parts are under-seasoned. Wine selection seems ok on paper but for the second time the sommelier recommended a wine to hat did not match my request. I still question his ability as I did in my review two years ago. Steak Tartar: nice presentation, nice truffle cream, Meat seasoning average, would have been nice to have hand cut beef rather than minced meat and defined directions in taste rather than a blunt blend. Truffle spaghetti: too much salt, too much truffle oil flavor far from fresh truffle taste), oily, feels cheap for the place. Totally uninteresting and uncontrolled. Deer: very well cooked and tender meat. Unfortunately the jus is very salty, you also get a cabbage leaf filled with under-seasoned cabbage and potato mash and something else I could not defined but without gustative interest. All up, 84 euro for 4 course is not very expensive but the food is rather disappointing. 135euro for the wine « clos des Jacobins ». Wine to my taste was fairly disappointing for the price and again the recommendation was poor in relation to my request. Friendly front house staff, but struggles with English and understanding of the menu, maybe some training required. Better than many touristic restaurants in the city center but falls short of its promises. Again, step up your game.
For a fine dining restaurant, the experience was anything but fine. I came to the restaurant with my family to celebrate my aunt’s birthday, but it turned out to be a terrible experience overall. The service was perhaps the worst I have ever encountered in...a fine dining restaurant. We were ignored for a good 15 minutes after we sat down before the waiters acknowledged us and took our orders. The restaurant wasn’t even full. We asked the head waiter for wine recommendations, but he seemed very disinterested in doing so and hastily chose what seemed to be at random. At no point did the waiters explain to us the dishes we were eating, nor did they check on us if everything was okay. Perhaps the only bright side was their somewhat adequate attempt at celebrating my aunt’s birthday, putting 4 additional strawberries on the cake we bought from another shop while bringing it to the table with a single sparkler. Since the service was so bad, I thought the food had to at least be good to warrant the kind of reviews it had received so far. Unfortunately, it was nowhere close. The food was uninspiring and overly salted. They tried to use expensive and lavish ingredients like foie gras and white truffles as replacements for good cooking and seasoning. Beneath these ingredients was unfortunately mediocre food. Their only saving grace were perhaps the chestnut soup and short rib, that had some semblance of what good food was supposed to be. Perhaps the most damning was the fact that they served a dish different from what we ordered and what was displayed on the menu. I ordered a truffle linguine but was served spaghetti instead (maybe because we were Asian and they didn’t think we would notice the difference). Serving a different dish from what was ordered without any explanation is a big no-no for any restaurant, let alone a fine dining establishment. Overall, if you decide to dine here, be prepared to spent a lot of money for an equal amount of disappointment. This place left such a bad impression on me that I had to create this account on TripAdvisor just to warn others against visiting this place.
