The schnitzel was good, but had little to no flavor, which I am now told is true of almost all schnitzels. They did have a Mexican variety, which might have been better. The staff was wonderful and the locals seemed to be enjoying themselves.
Sorry but based solely on the terible Hamburger I had here, I have to give the place only 2 stars.. I know..never order a burger in Munich unless you have heard they are good. We didn't know much about this place, although it was recommended by someone in the neighborhood (but I'm sure NOT for the burgers! My husband ordered the senf wiener schnitzel, which I tasted, and it was pretty good (although I've had better . Nice waitstaff, but why didn't he ask if everything was ok when half my burger was still there at the end? Super cute logo, and I noticed some interesting vegetarian options- wish I would have tried the kartoffelpflanzerl instead! About that burger (see saucy pic , somehow I ate several bites before I noticed it was half raw, but I was so hungry even the really bad sauce they poured all over it didn't stop me from taking another bite, until suddenly (not more than half through I couldn't eat it anymore. (I was fine later so it wasn't a big deal, I just didn't like it . Try something else here if you go, like the typisch Bavarian or vegie option and let us all know how it is.
I decided to come here based on the high rating while in Munich for Oktoberfest. Also the fact that it was 9 pm, and the closest restaurant.... I was a little worried they wouldn 't be open, as we arrived at 9pm on a Sunday evening. However, we were quickly greeting by a very nice german woman who told us we could take any seat we liked. Because they advertised themselves as being known for their burgers, my husband ordered a hamburger and I ordered their special which was suckling pig with potato dumplings and sauerkraut. Then, my two friends with us ordered the kaese spaetzle. The food came out quite quickly, and overall the service was very good. I quite enjoyed my pork dish. It was flavourful, but not too rich or too fatty. The sauce was really nice and paired well with the potatoes, and for someone who is not a fan of sauerkraut... I thought their sauerkraut was really good. My husband said he thought his burger was just okay, why my friends said they really enjoyed their kaesespaetzle. All in all, I thought this place was decent, but I wouldn 't go here specifically for the burgers. Save your burger eating for somewhere else.
If this place weren't trying to sell itself as a place famous for its burgers, I'd have given it a solid three stars. However, as they want to be known for their burgers...two stars, and consider that generous. They don't serve burgers here so much as Fleischpflanzerl with waaaaaay too much crappy sauce. As in, I am convinced that they are playing a game of trying to hide two Fleischpflanzerl mashed together in a mess of sauce and inferior burger bun. So, when you come here, order something Bavarian. Based purely on that, this place is a solid three-star joint, and even tickles the feet of a fourth little shiny. As for the other aspects, it's a normal, wood-paneled shrine to Augustiner that occasionally hosts events like live music. The service is nice, but overworked. Often, there is one girl waitressing the entire restaurant, which really just seems cruel considering the size and layout of the place. Conclusion: nice place for a beer or a Münchnerschnitzel, but stay away from the burgers.
Dinner was very good. And the Bavarian apple dessert is a must have! Would eat here again and recommend. Service was ok. A little slow, but everyone was very friendly and it was a good experience.
