Best vegetable burger in Iowa. It is house made and cooked to only slightly crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside. I had it in the Burger of the Month style, with figs and pears-catney and goat cheese, and I just died of happiness. We also got a special spinach and artichoke cutney that was walnut gargonzola cream. Amazing. I seriously think about coming back tomorrow to have the same burger back for lunch! View all feedback.
What Kate Maxwell doesn't like about Palisades Cafe:
We stopped into our once favorite Mr. Vernon eatery for lunch. Sadly, the waiter told us they were not seating anyone else because they were short staffed. (Still one hour of serving time and empty tables. We had 3 in our party. . The unfortunate thing was that he was so rude to us. I know giving eager customers bad news is not easy. This was different. He just didn’t have the time for us and made that very clear. On... View all feedback.
Great food in a quaint little dining room. My daughter loved looking at the decor while we waited for or food. We got the onion rings appetizer and they were a unicorn. They are the thin shoestring style that everyone makes greasy and soggy, but somehow they managed to make them crispy and yummy so much so that my kids who never eat onion rings both devoured them!
I had the burger of the month. Thick burger cooked perfectly, with blue cheese, onion and bacon marmalade. It was great We also had the salmon cakes, which where great.

A great mom and pop café in the heart of downtown Mt. Vernon. Jim got the handroller and I ordered the construction of a burger with bacon and cheese. The tomatoes were fresh and cut to a good size. The burger hit my nose when I took my first bite. We both had a side order of Pommes. We picked up the curb. Portions are good. Fries seemed to be handcut. Cosy attitude inside. I would recommend checking this place. If you take out, make sure you ask for napkins. You need them when you order sandwiches.
The first time we were here was on a weekday and it was a great experience. The second time was a weekend and it wasn't almost as impressive. This last time they seemed to be short staff or overwhelmed or both. It was shown in her body language and emotions. Saw the waiter plate two desserts, one of them is our, with their bare hands instead of a cooking utensils. We were not checked and had to fly someone if we wanted to order something or request a refill. When we requested a refill of the reaction as if it was a huge request and all kinds of additional work... It was out of the way. The food wasn't almost as good as the first time that was disappointing. If the first experience had not been so good, I would probably have given these 3 stars.
