This is the best house, authentic Italian restaurant in the Pittsburgh area! The menu is huge, so many pasta, dishes and the greatest salads. There is a beautiful restaurant in the front, and also a separate small building with an elegant bar in the patio during the summer season the open patio area is wonderful definitely five stars ! What Colleen Lataille doesn't like about Il Pizzaiolo:
Pretty unaccommodating place. They said they have gluten free pasta but it’s cooked in the regular pasta water, making it no longer gluten free. Then I tried to order a pasta dish with the gluten free pasta (risking it), and they said they won’t do substitutions. That makes no sense at all! I lived in Italian Switzerland and just got back from a trip to Italy and all of the restaurants are very accommodating for glut... View all feedback.
It was great. The mozzarella was the freshest. The rice balls are delicious. I look forward to going back.
Please give this place a try, you won’t be disappointed! We drove an hour to come here for dinner, and we definitely will make the trip back! The food was delicious, the service was amazing, and the restaurant itself is beautiful. If you go on a nice day, sit outside… it is gorgeous! This may be our new favorite Italian restaurant!
Just had dinner here for my mom’s birthday. Overall, the experience was amazing. Our server was Anastasia and she was so nice and really made the evening special. Couldn’t have asked for better food and service. We will definitely be coming back!
EDIT: Received a phone call from Ben (manager? who could not have been more kind. They are working to fix the issue and use it as a learning experience. Truly appreciate the concern and care. Will be giving them another shot.Original Review 1 star rating: I placed a catering order for pickup a few days in advanced. On the day of my pickup, the staff at the front door bar area barely acknowledged me. When I finally got someone’s attention (the bartender, I believe , she was incredibly short with me. I noticed the total was different than what it should have been based on pricing online. When I inquired about it, the bartender was curt with me again and dismissive. I asked to speak with someone about the price difference, and realized my order was incorrect. I was refunded the difference, but my order could not be corrected in time. Lastly, and most importantly, the food was just not good. The two of the three pans of pasta were incredibly dry and barely had any sauce. The Penne Rosa sauce had very little flavor. I wanted so badly to love it.
I grew up enjoying Il Piz in Lebo with my family on a regular basis for years. Unfortunately, each time I’ve visited within the last year, the food and service has been extremely poor. It seems the restaurant has gone way downhill. One of my favorite dishes, the caesar salad, has had pink/rotted lettuce the last 5 times I ordered it. The last time I visited (4/7/24), I ordered the salad without anchovies, as always. It arrived with anchovies. I politely asked again for no anchovies. The salad came back less than a minute later without anchovies but still tasting like fish, indicating they had been picked off.The staff is often very young and clearly inexperienced. It’s actually a little creepy that very young (often scantly-clad) girls comprise the majority of FOH staff. Why? This doesn’t match the classy vibe they try to go for. I keep giving this place a “break” but at this point I won’t be back.
