The Fernery - Mosman
The Fernery
Description
Nestled high above Sydney, The Fernery captivates diners with breathtaking views and a charming atmosphere. Guests rave about the diverse and delicious menu, including standout dishes like the sashimi tacos, spiced calamari, and grilled octopus salad. The venue's elegant decor and lively features, including a dedicated gin room and a rosé bar, enhance the dining experience. However, despite its potential, inconsistent service marred some visits, with slow responses and lack of attentiveness noted frequently. While the ambiance is enchanting, the staff's level of service remains a crucial area for improvement. Overall, it is a beautiful setting worth considering for special occasions.

We arrived at 6 PM just as the three-piece band had begun playing. From the happy hour signature gin and tonic to the cocktails, everything we tried was excellent. The old-school Brussels sprouts, scallops, and tacos were all on point. The service, especially from Lilly and the rest of the waitstaff, was outstanding. We will definitely come back—A+!
Food is decent, view and decor is lovely however service was not acceptable. Firstly we were asked if we wanted table service, which we did, however no one ever came so we had to order at the bar. We waited an hour for 2x steaks and had to chase them up and I don’t think the orders went through on their end. The venue was not busy at all, and service was basically non existent. Shame because it has potential.
The sign says 'kids eat free ' on Sundays but this place is NOT child friendly. Within two minutes of arriving (at 5.15) we were immediately made to feel unwelcome and told our kids had to be seated the whole time. There was one other group in the restaurant. No kids activities and we were charged for the kids meals despite the special. Don 't bother coming with kids unless you enjoy being treated like you have the plague.
The food was fantastic, but the service was extremely slow, which was disappointing considering the restaurant was only about 10% full. Overall, I would rate the food as a 5, the service as a 2, and the atmosphere as a 4. I dined in for dinner.
