Mi Pais Carniceria - Morganton
Mi Pais Carniceria
Description
A spirited, authentic Guatemalan eatery in Morganton shines with made-from-scratch tortillas, rich soups, seasoned beans, and a bustling in-house market offering quality meats and seafood. Bilingual, friendly staff and generous vegetarian options make it approachable for newcomers, while a self-serve salsa bar and picture menus ease ordering. Some diners praise it as a local gem; others note inconsistent food quality, occasional overcooked or dry proteins, limited tamale availability, and cleanliness concerns in restrooms and service areas. Worth visiting for bold flavors, but expect variable experiences.

I 'd give the restaurant itself 4 stars, and the meat market 5. The food is filling and tasty, just wary about the restaurant 's cleanliness. The fresh market is incredible with all sorts of shellfish and meats at fair prices. The music became repetitive and unpleasant, having to listen to la marimba for over an hour when my party was there. Overall, I really enjoy this business.
The food was disappointing and had an unpleasant smell. My steak was dry and tough, while my friend's chicken was burnt. The salsa is offered at a self-serve bar, which doesn’t seem very sanitary. The sinks were dirty, and there was water on the bathroom floor. Given the high prices, this experience was simply unacceptable.
The food is great, the service is good and fast, but the cleanliness leaves something to be desired, that's where the establishment should improve.
