Contribute FeedbackWorking in South San Jose, I don't get many food options. So if I have a little more time for lunch, I'd like to spend some great food! Or at least differently. Food at The Happy Fisherman is not the greatest, but it is good. I had the garlic shrimp plate that came together with a choice of rice and beans or Moros rice and black beans), and a choice of Plantains or Yucca. There were not too many shrimps and they were small, but with the Moros and Yucca I had more than enough to eat for lunch, but I also have a small appetite). They also make fruity milkshakes that are light and fluffy, almost with the same consistency as Orange Julius. We tried a Mame Milkshake. I had never mame before it is a tropical fruit similar to a papaya), and it was an interesting new taste. The milkshakes are a little expensive $3,75), but they were so light and fluffy I will probably get another soon! What I liked best about this restaurant was the people who worked there. They were very friendly, and the man behind the counter got a big kick from us showing his Big Mouth Billy Bass who sang Christmas songs.
Best Cuban cuisine in all Bay area! I should know I'm a Miami Cuban who misses her food awfully. I found this place accidentally, but it's worth the trip. Not an elegant place, but delicious. The owner came with his own recipe for Cuban bread, which is very close to the original that you are not around here. I had the Cuban sandwich and the steak with rice and black beans. I can't say enough about the place. It is made from a few 6 days a week from the opening to the conclusion, and everything is done when you order it. But one thing, it's not called the Happy Fisherman anymore. They are now called Deli-Pan, and while they still have the same dishes, they now have a glass display full of bread and candy – so you can finally take home a Cuban bread! This place is so reasonable! The Cuban sandwich was $5.75 (and it's a big sandwich). If you are curious about Cuban cuisine, don't miss this place!
