Vegetarians can have a rough time in Mexico. Yes, there are lots of wonderful vegetable foods in Mexico but restaurants like to add a bit of meat stock here and there. I have learned the Spanish words for all kinds of animal parts. La Hortaliza doesn't figure in many reviews and I am not sure how long it has been around. It is about three or four blocks from the cathedral and easy to find. The food was a simple, home-made style. We had tomato and vegetable soup, a simple salad and a main course of multiple flavors with some spicy and some starchy food. It had beans, rice, tofu and salsas. Service was friendly and quiet. We found the restaurant on a Sunday night, well after its normal closing time. The owners were unloading a vehicle outside, and we were invited inside for food anyway. The food was great, so I'd recommend you try it! I have had some indifferent food and service in Morelia, so this is a welcome exception.
