I recently visited Cafe Palms for the first time on a Friday with a group of 8 friends. From the moment we walked in until we left, we were taken care of by the lovely female owner of this charming establishment. She had a constant smile on her face and was incredibly attentive. What User doesn't like about Cafe Palms:
You are in the personal dining room of the owners with their idiosyncrosies. Many locals appreciate the personal acknowledgement and warm welcome. Unfortunately the waiting time for service while this conversation is completed can be long. The food is good, old fashioned and reasonably priced. Worth a visit then consider the competition. You must try the amazing home-cooked Italian dishes prepared by Michael and excellent service provided by Maria. This restaurant offers consistently delicious and comforting family-style meals. A must-visit for authentic Italian cuisine.
Cosy restaurant with decor being a mix of style. Gives the feeling of, if your weren't Italian, what it would be like to have dinner with a traditional italian family with television being continually on playing DVD movies next to the bar at the back of the restaurant. Subtitles was a nice touch without sound. Very tight seating arrangements which made conversing with friends easier. The food for me however was very disappointing in that whilst the framework for an italian meal was there, what I received wasn't prepared as it should have been. I ordered a lasagna which came out on what appeared to be a soup bowl. Pretty appropriate given the only thing you could see of the lasagna was the top layer with the rest of it sitting in liquid tomato sauce and not a Bolognese sauce. Needless to say, I sent it back. I was given a newly prepared one without any sauce around it. Just the lasagna piece. It unfortunately was tasteless. I also ordered an italian salad which was not, when I received it, as it should have been. I would describe it as lettuce with antipasto (giardinero from a jar) placed on top. The meal order took forever to be taken, partially only due to us talking to each other and not concentrating on what to order but mainly due to there only being one waiter and the owner Rosa looking after customers. We arrived at 7 and got our meal around 9. I will not be going back to this restaurant and gave it a rating of 3, only as the people i was with said their meal was good. If you don't mind waiting for your meal and you don't order what I had, you can make up your own mind. The owner Rosa was friendly.
Great restaurant. Traditional, tasty and good sized Italian meals. Minimal wait time for service and food. Veal saltimbocca and tiramisu were delicious. Will be back.
