went early for a breakfast and at first service was good. Got the food which was delicious but then it had got busier, though there was a lot more staff on we did not get asked if we wanted another coffee or table cleared. Eventually we caught a ladies eye and ordered coffees which got forgotten or missed, so after a while caught her eye again and asked how long coffees would be and she didn't remember taking our ord... What User doesn't like about Dear Abbey:
Had lunch today, given table to go and be seated. No one came to our table until I drew attention to them. No introduction to the menu or specials available for the day. No smiles and table staff looking disinterested. Can tell they are not trained in hospitality. My husband ordered a burger and it came in a basket that ended up meat/tomato juices running on the table and he had to use his servitte to catch the drips.... Absolutely love this place! Devastated that it wasn't here when I lived a 5 minute walk from it but very glad it's here now and loved it so much that we ate there 3 times in 6 days during our recent trip to Melbourne.Couldn't fault a thing and loved everything we ate. Will absolutely be back next time we are in Melbourne.
Family friendly environment. Fresh food, always something new to try as well and the standard menu. Highly recommend.
This very good breakfast place is located in an old Church building just off the main strip in Moonee Ponds.Service is good, there is a wide range of dishes on offer and prices are reasonable if a little on the high side for breakfast. We enjoyed our meal and would go back again.Living in Brunswick where there are so many very good cafes, we couldn't help but comment that without that edge brought about by intense competition, cafes such as Dear Abbey never quite reach that very top level
My daughter took me and her daughter (8 months) to Dear Abbey Cafe for Mothers' Day. I'd seen its modern addition, over time, to an old abbey, and seen its popularity after it was opened, so was interested to try it. BUT, was Mothers' Day and we hadn't booked. I was impressed that they fitted us in before a later booking. The food and service was excellent. I nearly didn't choose the 'soup of the day' as it was minestrone which I cook regularly. But I'm glad I did. It was superb! Super fresh ingredients. Best I've had (yes, better than mine). My daughter ordered the Green Truffle Omelette, but was served with Poached Free Range Eggs. A cafe/restaurant can be judged on its reaction to an error. Dear Abbey Cafe gave the perfect response: they offered to replace the dish with the omelette, but my daughter chose to keep the eggs as we were short on time. They removed the cost of the dish from our bill. (My daughter said they were excellent). We'll be back!
Absolutely perfect.... great coffee, friendly staff, exceptional service and delicious food. Perfect combination ????
