What Donatella Piras doesn't like about Restaurant du Relais du Petit St Bernard:
Je wordt door de bediening naar binnen gezogen. Alles moet hier snel gaan. De prijzen vallen mee maar kwaliteit is er ook niet echt. Een beetje ontgoocheld verlaten wij de zaak. View all feedback.
Our usual evening meal location, we stay in the Hotel Relais du Petit Saint Bernard every March. for the skiing, on a Demi-pension basis dinner is taken in the restaurant on a table d'hote menu, a choice of 2 entrees, mains and desserts. There is always a warm welcome from Jean-Philipe and Sarah who run the restaurant, food is invariably I would describe it as Cuisine Bourgeois. Service is speedy and efficient, there's a good choice of wines at reasonable prices and beer is available.. At lunchtime there are tables on the terrace for eating al fresco or in the restaurant, A great location with good food and service that won't break the bank.
Most of the food was good but we ordered two butternut squash soups. These tasted of fish. 3 of us tasted them and asked the waitress to check if they had fish in them. She took them away to the kitchen and came back saying there was no fish in them, saying they did not serve fish in the restaurant ….. and then said they only served fish and chips. This was actually incorrect as they also had another fish option on the menu. No apology was made nor was an alternative offered or the soups returned to us. When it was time to pay the bill we were extremely surprised to find they had charged for the soups. We queried this and said we didn’t feel we should have to pay for the soups as they had taken them away and not retuned This turned very quickly into an aggressive attack by the manager. The manager grabbed the arm of one of us twice and called another of us a liar and thief and said that in France people paid for their food but perhaps in our country we did not. Luckily one of the party is French and tried to intervene but the manager continued to be abusive shouting and threatening to call the police. Our actual waitress joined in the exchange also shouting. One of the waiters who had originally said that we probably wouldn’t make up that it tasted of fish made to trip one of us up with his foot. In the end we paid the bill and left. The whole episode was absolutely appalling and very distressing. I have never in my life witnessed such an aggressive manager of a restaurant. She should not be in the job or needs a considerable amount of training in customer service.
Average restaurant not helped by a condescending waitress, hotel was very good but attached restaurant disappointed.
We stay at the Hotel Relais du Petit Saint Bernard on a half board basis so this is our regular location for our evening meals. Always a warm and friendly welcome from Sarah and Jean-Philipe and their team. The restaurant id always busy not just with hotel guests but many of the local residents of La Rosiere. We've always happy with the choice of dishes, lots of variety, well prepared and served with a good wine list at reasonable prices. We'll often eat here at lunchtime, the plat du jour is invariably good value, you'll see lots of the ski instructors, pictures and employees of the lift company eating here, always a good sign in my opinion
Last week, we went twice to the restaurant for evening meals. The dining room is large, mountain style, in good taste with wooden mountain artefacts. We were very welcome, the waiters were friendly smiley. I had tartiflette salad my husband had diots mountain sausages) crozets small pasta made with special wheat) in a cheese wine sauce. We enjoyed the meal. But I enjoyed most was the icecream : myrtilles small cranberries vanilla in Genepi. The restaurant is well run. That was absolutely delicious. We hope to visit la Rosiere to see LE COL DU PETIT ST BERNARD in the summer go back to the restaurant.
